  1. Just imagine how much more damage the GOP could have caused if they somehow were able to tar him as an atheist?

While not being a Christian, especially the evangelical protestant kind is bad enough, not believing in a deity of any kind is considered far worse by many Americans to this very day.

  2. I cannot tell you how many times my friends from back home (Oklahoma) have posted MySpace blogs and bulletins about how Obama is a secret Muslim who is going to blow up the United States and get all of our soldiers killed.

  3. No he is not a Muslim, he actually declared himself as Christian. People calling him a Muslim are preying upon the islamophobia that is rampant in the US. His professed religion should have not baring on whether or not he can do the job of POTUS

  4. Although it should be funny, it’s not even funny how many people think this.

For instance, a woman at my job who seemed really otherwise perfectly nice an rational and intelligent told me she’s scared of Obama because his parents were fundamentalist Talibani Muslims.

So I’d like to laugh, but it’s too sad and scary.

  5. I’ve had the same thing happen Sparkle Pants…actually the bullitens said he was
Muslim AND an Atheist that was raised in a terrorist Madrassa!

And when I linked them to the CNN spot that debunked all of that as myth, they mysteriously shut up.

  6. Mulism and Atheist and Christian, can’t forget that. Also too black and not black enough.

He’s all things to all people.

Thanks for the link. It made me laugh. And it’s quite useful as a reference source.

  7. Well, I’m not saying that Muslim-y dark-skinned Barack “Hussein-the-Muslim” Obama with a Muslim father is a Muslim, but what if other people might think he’s a big ol’ Muslim? Doesn’t that hurt his chances in the general election? And isn’t it also dangerous for America?

Surprisingly even my Canadian friends who are usually very good on the uptake believe this.

Hm, yeah, if you want to run for office, you must either be a christian (or at least some kind of mainstream theist), or pretend to be one. Ergo, the country is run by loons and hypocrites. I suspect Mr. Obama falls into the latter category…

  10. And not all branches of Christianity are even considered equal. It would be harder for a Muslim to get elected than I think even an atheist, because of the beliefs expressed here of views that they’ve heard from others not so much that he’s a Muslim but because he’s one, he’s a terrorist, because of course, Islam equals terrorism.

I don’t think in this country it’s possible for either to get elected at this moment in time, but I think this stereotype of Muslims as being evil terrorists is an added factor.

  11. Speaking of Muslims, the Pakistani Heretical Girl has done a pretty horrendous attack on Feministe and she seems to have a personal issue with Cara in particular. Feministe is soft on Islamic oppression? I haven’t sensed that at all. There is definetly some sort of vendetta between this Pakistani Apostate and everyone else. Have one of you pulled PHG’s pig tails?

  12. to exholt, just wanted to say my experience of evangelical christians has not been the same. as a muslim who wants to make friends with a wide range of people i have taked over the internet with them-only to be told i’m going to hell and everything i believe in is wrong despite the fact most of what christian’s believe about christ(pbuh) is what we believe. their much nicer to the athiests. as i’m not american i’ve assumed from what i’ve seen america is a very religious country-have all the presidents been christian? does a president’s religion really matter-should’nt the more pressing issue be if they can deliver on promises?

  13. well.. it becomes a story behind every door.. is he a muslim or not?

he said he is not.. of course he should.. there are many Jews who controls the election and they are strong enough (as in connections) to not make him the President.

Well.. i just want to give him a chance.. we have been in the worst years where soliders have left the US to Iraq to fight and kill human being. Yes they are the bad ones there.. a lot~ but the majority who has been killed where normal people.. kids, old people and women..

So why not.. giving him the chance even if he is a muslim.. in the end he is a democratic person.. i want to see what he can do for the US and the world..

Yes.. sometimes we say.. we don’t want any more wars … we want a good President and that’s all..
but you can’t tell what’s inside anyone..

So… in my opinion.. let’s give this african-american a chance to role the world.. he might or might not do something..
