Hi There, Rupert!

Weeeelll, lookee here.

In comments to the post below about the charm school for men, the second comment was this little gem:

Cuban State Television Airs Video of Castro

Now, if you look at that link, you’ll see that it’s from Fox News. And that it’s a link to a story about a video released on Cuban state television featuring Fidel Castro — still alive — and Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela and bogeyman for Wingnuteria.

I thought that was a bit odd, and I’d never heard of traficante, so I took a peek at traficante’s email and ISP. The email’s a hotmail account — no real information there — but the ISP?

News Corporation. Owners of Fox News.

Should I be grateful that the blog gets enough traffic to be targeted by the propaganda spreaders at Fox News?

Mmm. Not so much. You’re banned, traficante, and so is your ISP. Say hi to Rupert and Bill for me.

ETA: Actually, I was wrong. Traficante showed up for the first time in July and has made several posts, all of which linked to one Fox News story or another. And sometimes they were even related to the post — though, bizarrely, the first time traficante showed up was in Jill’s post about her little sister’s blog, with a link to a story about mad cow being found in Canada.

  1. Hee. A couple of years ago I was in NYC attending a training session with the bossman, (who is also a friend), and we were strolling through midtown after dinner, and we saw a building that just said “NEWS CORP.” And we’re both scratching our heads, because we’d never heard of News Corp, and it was a really big, impressive building. After getting a bit closer (enough to read the fine print), we realized that it was Fox News Corps, and we both sort of went “ew.” Then, we got still yet even closer and pressed our faces to the windows to have a peek inside, and there, lo, was Sean Hannity doing his show.

I told my boss later that if he hadn’t been there, I had every intention of dropping trou and leaving a big ass print on his studio window. I was dismayed when my boss told me I shouldn’t have held back on his account. 🙂

  2. Yeah, I’ve noticed posts with exactly this format:

some lowercase thing like “what do you think about this”

[that link in exactly that text]

with different usernames all over the blogodrome. I’m not surprised to hear it’s someone from News Corp. Looks like there’s some active shilling going on.

  3. Well, two comments occur to me (I’m not a regular–followed Laura at 11d’s link to Lauren’s post).

First, if it’s spam, the ISP could be faked (I don’t know blog spam well, but that’s very common when I deal with email spam).

Second, if you look at any of my blog comments, I’m posting from a corporate ISP–because I’m goofing off at work and taking advantage of my internet connection to do so. I’m certainly not doing it on my employer’s orders.
