PETA to start a porn site, because of course.

Justin Bieber in a PETA ad
Next Bieber for PETA ad: "Animals Can Make U Hard. Adopt From Your Local Shelter." Right?

I don’t see what could possibly go wrong with this plan:

Instead of focusing on anti-fur, the porn site will raise awareness of veganism, said Rajt. “We really want to grab people’s attention, get them talking and to question the status quo and ultimately take action, because the best way we can help the greatest number of animals is simply by not eating them.”

So how pornographic will PETA go? According to Rajt, it will have enough adult content to qualify for the XXX domain site but also some other graphic images of animals that viewers may not expect to see.

Sure. Titties, titties, titties, CHICKEN WITH ITS BEAK SAWED OFF. Sounds hot. Definitely sounds like an effective way to get people to go vegan — associate animal cruelty with sexual arousal. I see absolutely no potential downsides.

  1. This is going to be the worst thing since the last worst thing.

Are they doing anything besides trolling the English-speaking world at this point?

  2. enough adult content to qualify for the XXX domain site but also some other graphic images of animals

I know Rule 34 & etc., but this is one niche I hadn’t heard of until now.

The title of this post gets it right. Given the way that PETA was going this pretty much had to happen.

  3. Wait a minute, I thought PETA was against beating the meat? So…Now you can protest the choking of chickens whilst choking your chicken?

Oh those was so much worse than I imagined. Ahem, moment of silliness over.

Seriously though, PETA have a history of using ‘questionable’ advertising tactics in the past but I’m really stuck as to how this logic went. “Animal rights, animal rights, animal rights, Hey we should do porn” At what point in the annual PETA meeting do those two things get linked?

  4. Richard:
“Animal rights, animal rights, animal rights, Hey we should do porn” At what point in the annual PETA meeting do those two things get linked?

Probably when someone brought the wrong batch of brownies to the marketing meeting.

  5. Instead of focusing on anti-fur, the porn site will raise awareness of veganism

So does this mean we’re going to get naturally hairy girls or not?

  6. Is it just me, or did the first line of commentary from Jill spark thoughts of an alternative Old Spice campaign? *shudder*

  7. Is PETA secretly run by people whose sole goal is to parody themselves? I mean, really, this could be an Onion story.

  8. “I totally saw this coming.”

I saw this while I was cumming too. OOOOH i’m just kidding I don’t look at porn. I am hoping to start a website for vegans in which luscious pictures of juicy vegetable dishes are used to lure in viewers who will then be subjected to information about how porn exploits women.

PETA has a long history of using women’s bodies to sell their message. First they had the (comparatively tasteful) ‘I’d rather go naked than wear fur’ ads. Then they had the ‘naked women in cages’ ads. Explicit porn is the next logical step.

I’m half convinced that PETA is a meat packing industry front group. They do more to discredit animal rights than any industry campaign ever has.

  10. When I read this I just froze. I didn’t know if I should be laughing, or screaming. Then again, I guess this might be the final nail in the coffin if this goes through. I just am amazed at their endless stupidity, regarding females.

    Rox- I love your comment!

  12. Well, if this isn’t just their latest misogynistic publicity stunt, then at least they’re finally admitting pornsploitation is their real love.

They already made me sick, now I just have one more reason not to pay any attention to them.

  13. So does this mean we’re going to get naturally hairy girls or not?

Hmm now that is a good point – are they going to be ‘all-natural’ women? no hair dye, no fake nails, no breast implants, etc? They’re against that sort thing, right? or is that only for female cows?

  14. Apparently nobody informed PETA that some people will go to the site just to get off to the animal cruelty pictures. I dunno what’s more disturbing, that I know they will or that PETA is ignorant enough to think using women’s bodies will sell their message about rights.

  15. Rare Vos: They’re against that sort thing, right? or is that only for female cows?

Oh, of course. Absolutely. No way they would possibly have a double standard there. Nuh uh. No w—

    Sorry.

    Sarcasmatron broke.

  16. I am hoping to start a website for vegans in which luscious pictures of juicy vegetable dishes are used to lure in viewers who will then be subjected to information about how porn exploits women.

    Now there’s an idea!

  17. Well, it’s what we all new their campaigns were coming to.

I doubt it is possible to maintain arousal whilst being ambushed by images of animal cruelty. Unless you are, *ahem*, into that. (In which case, the Supreme Court ruled you can have all of that you want. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-20002980-38.html )

Plus, not only is PETA earning bad press for themselves, they have nothing to add to the table. Strange as it may seem, a quick Google search reveals at least a few established pornographic sites promoting veganism. Given PETA’s sub-par previous endeavors into “sexiness”, they will undoubtedly fail to corner the niche.

  18. Nothing and no one has ever made me feel the least bit bad about being a vegetarian…besides PETA. I can’t stand that people make the association between that pack of a-holes and vegetarians/vegans/animal rights supporters at large, but they do a lot of the time, mainly because due to stunts like this, PETA is so well-known/notorious. I always make it very clear when it comes up that while we might share some specific values, I do NOT support them either in an abstract way or a concrete one (i.e. I don’t cheer them on or read their stuff or even open their mailers, and I don’t give them money or whatever).

  19. Rare Vos: Those things are so cheaply made! i broke three just by reading manboobz.

I don’t even turn my on if I am reading manboobz, because I suck at repairing gadgets.

  20. Pornsploitation? Porn isn’t exploitative just for being porn. There has to also be exploitation. No reason to think that’s what’s happening here, surely?

  21. cetzilla: Furry Girl’s Vegan Porn

OH those kids are going to be forever afraid of sex, yet curiously drawn to slaughter houses. PETA creating the next wave of young adults with scary personality disorders

  22. cetzilla:
I feel terrible for the curious teenagers who stumble across this site as their first foray into porn or erotica.

OH those kids are going to be forever afraid of sex, yet curiously drawn to slaughter houses. PETA creating the next wave of young adults with scary personality disorders

  23. Maka: OH those kids are going to be forever afraid of sex, yet curiously drawn to slaughter houses. PETA creating the next wave of young adults with scary personality disorders

    Technically that’d be a paraphilia.

    1. Are there really people here who think that porn is exploitative JUST for being porn?

I would bet a lot of money that there are people here who think porn is exploitative JUST for being porn (I am definitely not one of them, for the record, but this conversation is not novel, so I’m not going to act brand new).

  24. This feels like a strangely logical move from PETA considering their history. Bizarre, but it seems consistent with their strategy.

    wl:
Are there really people here who think that porn is exploitative JUST for being porn?

Are there really people here who do not know that there are people who think that porn is exploitative JUST for being porn?

As Jill said: Not a new debate. (For the record: I do not think that either)

  25. PETA is ignorant enough to think using women’s bodies will sell their message about rights.

Why not? Our bodies are used to sell every other damn thing.

  26. A website combining animals being tortured/killed, and xxx porn.

I don’t think the sort of people they’ll attract to their website will be the type that will want to stop animal cruelty, somehow.

  27. matlun:
This feels like a strangely logical move from PETA considering their history. Bizarre, but it seems consistent with their strategy.

Yup. At least this feels a bit more honest than their usual tactic of putting naked ladies on everything and pretending it isn’t supposed to titillate.

  28. I work for a domain registrar that is taking registrations for .XXX domains. And personally, while I don’t agree with PETA most of the time, I infinitely prefer what they are going to do with their .XXX to what I can only guess at for some of the other names that are being ordered. *shudder*

  29. Pornsploitation? Porn isn’t exploitative just for being porn.

Nor did I say it was. Its pornsploitation because THIS IS ABOUT PETA, an group that does nothing but exploitation.

  30. Whatever you think of “sex sells” the fact that PETA (and the media in general) overwhelmingly use women’s bodies to do the selling (but only conventionally gorgeous women who spend endless time and effort grooming themselves, of course) is sexist bullshit. And don’t get me started on PETA’s sexist campaigns equating women (hardly ever men) to meat and animals, having them sit in cages, throwing paint on their coats (never men’s leather shoes or jackets) etc.

Animal lovers who also care about women should shun PETA. Try The Humane Society. They manage to advance animal rights without treating women like shit.

  31. Jill: I would bet a lot of money that there are people here who think porn is exploitative JUST for being porn (I am definitely not one of them, for the record, but this conversation is not novel, so I’m not going to act brand new).

My issue isn’t with porn, it’s with PETA’s message that you have to be thin, and willing to strip your clothes off, to make a stand for animal rights. They have been sending the idea, that the only way women can fight for issues, is by taking their clothes off. Even worse, sending this message to young girls, by having their stripper attired protest women, give out Tofutti to kids.

They are hypocrites, they are headed by a woman, yet a woman who is willing to use other women’s bodies to make her statement. PETA has been stating for ages, that animals are more important than women, Blacks, and Jewish people. I’m referencing their campaigns where they compare slaughterhouses to the showers at Holocaust camps, or compare chained Elephants to Black people being enslaved. They’re not only mysogynist they’re also racist.

Now, they want to combine sexual tittilation with images of abused animals. If that isn’t a huge accident waiting to happen I don’t know what is. I mean, really, PETA says they’re against animal torture, yet combines it with sex so young men associate animal torture with sexuality. PETA will be giving birth to a new generation of Jeffery Dahmers, hope they’re proud of that.

  32. I’m still confused. I don’t even understand why a porn site relates to animal rights. I was assuming it would make some sense to me after a while, but it’s not happening. Before getting offended, I’ve stopped at “WUT”

The point is that it doesn’t. It’s a cynical “come for the porn, leave when we throw animal mutilation at you” philosophy.

Seriously !!! (great comment) Also, so many of the comments were making me splutter with laughter. Just what. WHAAAT.
