There should definitely be a rule about using words you do not know the meaning of. Terrorism is by definition, from the US legal code “the term āterrorismā means premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents”. Therefore according to the US legal code, it is never terrorism to attack the military or military organizations, regardless of the wrongness of the attack. So, Bill Ayers, by definition, not a terrorist (Pentagon=military organization and pentagon emloyees are not, in the pentagon, civilians). Whereas abortion clinic bombers 1) attack civilians 2)have a political motive and 3)are not their own nation (now that would be a really scary country) and therefore are, under the US legal code, terrorists. The UN definiton is slightly different, terrorism is “any act intended to cause death or serious bodily harm to civilians or non-combatants with the purpose of intimidating a population or compelling a government or an international organization to do or abstain from doing any act”. Again, Ayers is not a terrorist and abortion clinic bombers are. The Department of Defense definition “The calculated use of unlawful violence or threat of unlawful violence to inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals that are generally political, religious, or ideological”, makes both Ayers and the bombers terrorists (Ironically, this definition also makes a good deal of the American Revolution acts of terrorsim as well as the Warsaw Ghetto uprisings against the Nazis).
You know, I wish it were true that more and more people were put off by every word that comes out of Palin’s mouth, but I sadly don’t see it happening. For the most part, I’ve noticed that the people who are horrified at her ignorance probably weren’t going to vote McCain in the first place. Hardcore social conservatives love her for the very same reasons that reasonable people dislike her. I think it goes back to the “voting for candidate I’d like to have a beer with” thing. She’s simple, she’s ‘folksy’, she’s a ‘hockey mom’-type. The people who love Palin apparently don’t need to understand all of that ‘elitist’, left-wing jibberjabber about facts. She’s ‘one of them’ (i.e. white, ‘folksy’, and therefore non-threatening) and that’s all that matters.
Trying to think of a non-gendered non-sexual way to say Fuck You… Good god Sarah Palin is an asshole. How great would it be to see an ad with that clip, followed by photos like these.

Sweet god (whom I’ve decided is going to be Athena considering how cool she is), but Palin is nuts. Does she even think about what she’s going to say there? I’m watching all this from up here in Canada, where we just finished our own election, and it amazes me some of the stuff that happens down in America. Hopefully when I come down next year to visit some friends, I’ll be visiting an America with Obama as the President, instead of McCain/Palin.
nice to know that women who seek any sort of medical attention at a clinic/hospital where abortions are performed and the people who work at these health care facilities are not “innocent Americans” but then, her understanding of who is American may be similar to that of Joe McCain, Michele Bachmann or other folks like them.
Wow she was REALLY trying to dodge THAT question. But why answer a legitimate question from a journalist when you can just mention Bill Ayers’ name like 20 times?
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. I thought terrorism was an act or threat of violence on civilians by civilians in order to send a political message to the government to make radical changes. So the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11 were terrorist attacks because civilians hijacked civilian aircraft and flew them into a building full of civilians in an attempt to tell the U.S. government to stay the hell out of the Middle East (or something). And attacks or threats on abortion clinics and/or their workers by civilians are acts of terrorism because those workers are civilians, and the point of the attack is to make abortion illegal. But those attacks planned and/or carried out by Bill Ayers (I don’t even know the full extent of those attacks) were on the Pentagon, not civilians. So can Bill Ayers even be considered a terrorist? Because when I watched that video, I think Governor Palin might not know what terrorism is, or is intentionally trying to misrepresent what terrorism is so that it fits her political views. And since people throw around terrorism to mean just about anything (sort of like, in McCain’s view, how “the pro-abortion movement” includes “health” to mean “anything”), I don’t even know what terrorism is anymore.
Civilians do work in many government buildings and anyone who attacks them is fully aware of this. Violent actions by groups or individuals against non-civilians and governments can be used to spark fear among the populace, so those actions would have to be considered acts of terrorism. As such Bill Ayers’ actions back in the day were no less an act of terrorism than those of the unabomber or Timothy McVeigh. Of course, I think that when a government intentionally acts in a way by making incendiary comments to spark an unrealistic and unnecessary fear of terrorism among its citizens, those government officials are perpetrating an act of terrorism (in principle, at least) against their people. Terrorism is not limited to actually physically hurting or killing people, it’s about forcing them to live in a constant fear of those attacks.

The Pentagon bomb injured no one, flooded a restroom, and destroyed some classified information. Yes, as Sarah “I would like to forbid robocalls” Palin’s robocall said, one of their bombs did “kill Americans” — but that bomb went off by accident while it was being assembled, and the three Americans it killed were all members of the Weather Underground Group.
