I’m very consciously about to break Godwin’s Law here, but I think it’s warranted: The rhetoric coming from the Republican party is so hateful that I nearly expect to hear someone propose a final solution to “the Muslim problem.”

John Deady, the co-chair of New Hampshire Veterans for Rudy, is standing by the comments he made in the controversial interview with The Guardian we posted on below, in which he said that “the Muslims” need to be chased “back to their caves.”

In an interview with me, Deady confirmed that when he made the comments, he was referring to all Muslims.

“I don’t subscribe to the principle that there are good Muslims and bad Muslims,” Deady told me by phone from his home in New Hampshire. “They’re all Muslims.”

But he was probably just taken out of context, right? Well…

In the earlier interview with The Guardian, Deady said of Muslims: “We need to keep the feet to the fire and keep pressing these people until we defeat or chase them back to their caves or in other words get rid of them.”

Emphasis mine. Deady later clarified:

“When I say get rid of them, I wasn’t necessarily referring to genocide. What I was referring to is, stand up to them every time they stick up their heads and attack us. We can’t afford to say, `We’ll try diplomacy.’ They don’t respond to it. If you look into Islamic tradition, a treaty is only good for five years. We’re not dealing with a rational mindset here. We’re dealing with madmen.”

“I wasn’t necessarily referring to genocide?” That may be more telling than the original comment.

  3. In great contrast to Republicans, Democrats like Hillary Clinton would never engage in Islamophobia.

    For example, I was touched by how Bob Kerry repeatedly referred to Obama as Barack Hussein Obama, for the benefit of an all white Iowan crowd on the eve of their primary. Given that he was in the midst of endorsing rival candidate Hillary Clinton, it was especially selfless of him to point out how Obama’s Muslim connections were a good thing, especially the fact that he attended a madrassa, albeit a “secular madrassa” as Kerry put it, as opposed to the religious one Clinton staffers have been graciously alleging for a while, in an apparent effort to pad Obama’s resume.

    “It’s probably not something that appeals to him, but I like the fact that his name is Barack Hussein Obama, and that his father was a Muslim and that his paternal grandmother is a Muslim,” said Mr. Kerry. “There’s a billion people on the planet that are Muslims, and I think that experience is a big deal.” The fact that Kerry likes Obama’s middle name, despite the fact that, at least according to Kerry, Obama does not, just shows you how tolerant he is.

    In great contrast to Bush, who puts Uncle Toms in token positions such as Secretary of State, Kerry would like to see Mr Obama in a Clinton administration role of reaching out to black youths and Muslims around the world. “As an African-American, he can speak in an authentic way to underperforming black youth who I think will follow his example.” Of course, if Obama loses the nomination, he’ll be even more authentic, having underperformed. What this country, and our underperforming black youth need, is authenticity.

    But the cherry on this pie of political generosity was when Kerry went out of his way to point out how others are saying he’s an “Islamic Manchurian Candidate” (of course, there’s no connection between this and President Clinton saying, “We don’t know what we’re getting” with Obama). Similarly, the head of Hillary Clinton’s campaign in New Hampshire, Bill Shaheen, warned that those Willie Horton Republicans are going to use the racially coded “drug dealer” smear against Obama, a charge no white candidate who’s admitted using drugs ever faced. It’s quite sporting of the Clintons to warn Obama of these smears in advance. A special shout out goes to Clinton’s campaign manager, Mark Penn, for graciously saying “we’ve made clear that the issue related to cocaine use is not something that the campaign was in any way raising.”

    By not returning the favor Obama is really being a bad sport,. Why can’t he be equally generous by advising her like this:”Hillary must be careful not to respond to charges of lesbianism, that the republicans are sure to bring up.” He’s clearly not in the Clintons’ class. I wouldn’t be surprised if he were so thoughtless as to miss the Neshoba County Fair.

    Do you think I can find some local Democrat to come out and say some moronic things about, I don’t know, Koreans? If I then gin up a post with a poster that some right-winger made up to mock leftists, and quote my handpicked moron, and title the post “The Democratic Party’s Korean Problem”, you’d be all over it as a sample of political arguing in bad faith from the wingers.

    Come on. We can’t shit on the table and then complain about how things smell.

    Perhaps, but when they hear it a large portion of democrats won’t nod and say “Yup, sounds about right”.

    If you look at the Eteraz article, you’ll find links to many more examples of anti-Muslim comments by GOP members. The Republican party has made racism and xenophobia a large part of its campaign through its insistent claims that our borders are under attack by Muslim terrorists, and its reluctance to admit that terrorism isn’t an inherent part of Islam. Also, although the poster is a spoof, Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week was an actual event; last October, supporters chalked publicity for it all over the UCI campus (among many other universities and colleges), and the language of the movement is about as hate-filled and reductionist as the spoof. Yes, I bet you’d be able to find one Democrat who doesn’t like Koreans, but you’d be hard pressed to find anti-Korean statements peppering the language of the entire Democratic party.

  12. Yes, I am quite aware that the poster was created by liberals mocking Islamofascist Awareness Week. I thought it was clever and funny, and I figured everyone else would get it, too. Looks like you all did. Good.

    And other commenters are correct when they say that the Democrats aren’t exactly all-embracing either, and they also Muslim-bait. But they aren’t nearly as bad as the GOP yet.

Deady’s comment instantly reminded me of Mark Steyn and his comment about how mass killings of Bosnian Muslim civilians during the Bosnian War were all part of a logical response to the fact Muslims had, over time, become the plurality. His screed America Alone actually contained the line, “The Serbs figured that out—as other Continentals will in the years ahead: if you can’t outbreed the enemy, cull ’em.”

    Steyn claimed he wasn’t “necessarily” supporting or rationalizing genocide either.

  19. Why do Democrats willingly ignore the Muslim threat in the world? In Islamic schools children are taught to hate non-Muslims, that strapping on a bomb and killing innocent people is good, and bullshit about mythical virgins that will do whatever for male Muslims that murder in the name of Allah.

    Why do Democrats embrace and support a “religion” whose agenda is global forceful domination of the world “for Allah”? Countries ruled with the Koran as the final authority can never truly be free – yet Democrats embrace this crap – why?

    This is the primary reason I’m against American troops in Iraq – since Iraq established their constitution. Read what it says and at the very beginning it states the final authority is the Koran. Therefore, it is impossible for the people to realize true freedom, therefore our troops have been sacrificed for Islamic gain, not for any faux freedom.

    Yet Democraps continue to support this – why?

    Even the SS didn’t contemplate death camps for the Jews as their first choice – throughout the 1930s they were content to put pressure on them to emigrate (minus any property, of course, which was confiscated by the State) and even for the first couple of years of the war the plan was to ship the Jews of Europe to Madagascar for “resettlement.”

    Therefore, someone might say they’re not considering genocide as their “first choice,” but once one demonizes a group and talks about ejecting and/or excluding the members of that group it’s just a hop, skip, and tumble to the next “best” thing…

    Yeah, the Iraqi government is basically a Shiite theocracy. That’s what’s so ironic about the whole US involvement in Iraq (which I am against by the way) and most of your Islamophobes are oblivious to that. If the US does decide to bomb with Iran, the alliance witht the Shiites will be broken and there might be a forged alliance with the Sunni instead. That in turn would be the beginning of WW3. I hope that doesn’t happen for my sake (I could be drafted and I don’t wanna).
