Merry Christmas from your local anti-choice terrorist

Two planned Parenthood clinics were attacked by anti-choice terrorists on Christmas day. Kinda makes the supposed “War on Christmas” look a bit silly, no?

A rash of attacks on abortion and family planning clinics has struck Albuquerque this month, the first such violence there in nearly a decade.

Two attacks occurred early Tuesday at two buildings belonging to Planned Parenthood of New Mexico, according to Albuquerque police and fire officials. An arson fire damaged a surgery center the organization uses for abortions, and the windows of a Planned Parenthood family planning clinic 12 blocks away were smashed, the officials said.

Neither building sustained significant damage, and activities at both of them resumed Wednesday, a spokeswoman said.

The attacks came just weeks after the Albuquerque clinic run by a nationally known abortion provider, Dr. Curtis Boyd, was destroyed by arsonists on Dec. 6.

And of course “pro-lifers” condemn the attacks in the strongest terms, right? Well…

[Dauneen Dolce, executive director of the Right to Life Committee of New Mexico] said: “We never encourage violence of any nature. After all, there’s enough violence going on in these clinics.”

I’m sure that the constant anti-choice rallying point that evil abortionists are killing babies and must be stopped has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that abortion clinics are routinely attacked by anti-choice nuts who claim they’re saving babies. And what does the biggest anti-choice “news” site on the web say?

That abortion business is run by Curtis Boyd, who has done abortions in New Mexico since 1972 and was involved in establishing the National Abortion Federation, a national trade group for abortion businesses.
Boyd’s wife, Glenna Halvorson-Boyd has served on NAF’s Board of directors and as the organization’s president for two years during the mid-1980s.

The abortion center does both surgical abortions and distributes the dangerous abortion drug RU 486 (mifepristone) that has killed thirteen women worldwide and injured more than 1,100 in the United States alone.

Women pay anywhere from $425 to $1,895 for an abortion depending on how far along the baby is in the pregnancy.

Abortion practitioner Bruce Ferguson runs an abortion center in the same office building as Boyd.

Despite the fact that no one from the pro-life community has been implicated in the fire, Planned Parenthood’s national president is blaming pro-life advocates for causing it.

They’re right: Cecile Richards has absolutely no reason to think that anti-choicers might be behind the repeated attacks on New Mexico clinics. And the incendiary language that anti-choicers use — talking about “how far along the baby is in the pregnancy,” “the dangerous abortion drug,” etc — does not at all send the message that anti-choice foot soldiers should take action.

  1. They’ve arrested the two guys for the Christmas Day attacks. Luckily, the damage to the Planned Parenthoods (only one of which was an actual abortion clinic) was minimal. Dr Boyd’s office was completely destroyed.

No word yet if the two attacks are connected, though. Apparently the motive for the Planned Parenthood attacks was that one of the guys ex-girlfriend was scheduled to have an abortion there.

  2. The Christian al-Qaidas are out there in force. These attacks prove that they will stop at nothing to force their Christofascist agenda on women and other beleaguered groups.

I saw a mugshot of two 22-year-old terrorists on KRQE that burned down an Albuquerque clinic on December 6. The terrorists are identified as Sergio Baca and Chad Altman.

  3. YEESH… seriously, why does the guy have to lie? Why does he have to hide behind some thin wall of journalism? Why not just jump up and down with joy and shout “YAAYYYY!!!”

At least that way, he’d be frigging HONEST. >_<

Which, given that a single ultrasound can cost anywhere from $425 (standard) – $1,895 (level II u/s), shows exactly how abortion is more profitable than a continued pregnancy and these nasty OB/GYNs are getting richer killing babies than birthing babies.

LOL…yeah, my OBGYN made all of 17K off of my C- section two years ago. That sure is chump change….

Whenever I see the “abortion is more profitable: nonsense from these asshats it always confirms my feelings that they’re not only pissed women are making their own healthcare decisions – they’re pissed that MD’s are making some money delivering safe, legal medical care.

When was the last time you heard them screech about prenatal costs and delivery costs – and slam the MD’s and hospitals for charging so much rthat women may prefer abortion? Never? Same here….

Wow, 17K is actually pretty low for a c-section. Most of the uncomplicated c-sections I hear about end up being in the 25K-35K range. My vaginal, unmedicated get-me-the-hell-out-of-this-hospital-asap experience came in just over 10K (paid out at insurance rates, probably about 20K charged).

And if I ever was crazy enough to decide to do it again, under our lovely current insurance plan from my husband’s fortune 100 company, the first $2500 of that would be out of pocket. Give me a break, that’s the cost of hiring a midwife for a home birth in our area. Our insurance company has just eliminated the biggest reason NOT to go for a home birth: we’re going to be paying the same out of pocket for either option now!
