Looking for some volunteers from the British Isles or Australia

To try out this thing:

faveofreedom1.jpg

It’s the Faveo Freedom Bra, and its inventor, Joanne Morgan, swears it’s comfortable and supportive for large breasts. It just, well, it looks weird. And entirely counterintuitive.

But if it’s really true that it’s supportive and comfortable, I’d shell out the $90 it’d cost me to have the thing(s) shipped from England. One of my biggest problems with bras is the band digging into me at one particular spot, probably because one of my breasts is bigger than the other, so the bigger one pulls the whole bra off-center and the band on the other side digs.

So this is where you come in, dear readers: if you have large breasts and live in the British Isles or Australia (currently the only places where these things are available in person), please go try a pair of these things on and let us know if they’re really all that. I’m also curious to know if your boobs still swing around, even if they’re supported.

Thanks!

Not to mention: if this works, halter tops!

  1. I don’t understand how it would stay on…it seems like the straps on top would just slide down and the whole thing would pop off!

  2. While googling for more information, I came across this video on how to fit the things. The outer perimeter is pretty much all silicone, so it’s a matter of suction.

  3. The example of a too-small bra was scary! It looked like some kind of torture device.

I wish it would work for smaller sizes–I hate strapless bras.

  4. I’m checking out the Faveo site. Sorry to post twice; just wanted to say that, judging by the picture Zuzu’s shown here, it doesn’t create a good look, shape-wise.

  5. Oh, and apparently they do have one distributor in the US, in Tennessee. Anyone close Memphis might jaunt down to Lynn’s Perfect Fit and see if they do, in fact, fit perfectly.

  6. I will definitely make an effort to go down to Bray and try this out. If I get round to it anytime soon I’ll report back. Thanks for the tipoff! This would have been SO useful during the summer…

  7. They look like they pull whole breast way out in order to have space for that band thing to fit around at the… base? At the chest. Wouldn’t your boobs stick out WAY TOO FAR in this thing?

I think that I prefer my Over-the-Shoulder Boulder Holder, thank you very much.

  8. I don’t expect this to be very comfortable; it’s made out of silicone, which traps heat. Since it’s meant to hold on by being slightly sticky, I’m not sure whether it work once I got warm in it and started to sweat. I’m also not sure whether it would allow clothing to slide over it properly.

That said, my boobs are “torpedo” shaped already and in fact look pretty much like the model’s above, except saggier. From the description, it seems like the bra would give a more “young” shape than a “bra” shape, since it’s basically just acting as a second supportive skin?

  9. Okay, that thing gives the model’s breasts such an odd shape, and it does not make them look any more pert or perky or supported- notice how she now has breast that jutt out horizontally from midway down her chest.

Additionally, the model was not particularly large-chested, so doesn’t have much breast tissue around the sides, and even then just watching the way the breasts hung when she leaned forward I’d say those things don’t support so much as hang of of the top of the boob, so I can’t see how that’d reduce back pain, chest pain, bounce, sag or discomfort due to too much movement.

But, since I live in the UK I’ll keep an eye out and try one on if I see it- I’m hoping I’ll be proved wrong and can start wearing backless dresses!

  10. I don’t think I could be trusted with those. The temptation to flash all my friends to watch them laugh would be overwhelming.

  11. If this bra actually works, it will violate all I know about physics. Just as you can’t move your car forward by sitting in the driver’s seat and pushing on the steering wheel, you can’t make a breast perkier by hanging it from its own top edge. That, and I see terrible loss of circulation.

  12. I much prefer the NuBra. I know it probably doesn’t offer much support for larger women, but then I doubt any strapless bra will. But it has worked spectacularly for me (A-B cups).

  13. … and amazingly, even though my skin is so sensitive I can’t wear band-aids, the adhesive on the nubra doesn’t bother me in the least.

  14. It looks kinda like it would give a woman post-traumatic flashbacks to a particularly unpleasant mammography. Breasts just aren’t designed to be squished that … horizontally.

  15. Well, it’s not like they’re designed to be squished against your collarbone, either.

I kind of understand the aesthetic criticisms but on the other hand, what if this was actually amazingly supportive? Would we all avoid it because its look wasn’t conventionally appealing? Even if it isn’t, why is it that at least half the lingerie industry puts out bras meant to appeal to the male gaze rather than to really and truly support the woman’s breasts?

If this were all it claimed to be, we’d just have to get used to the look. (I guess, fortunately, we won’t have to, because it doesn’t look like it would do anything for me.)

  16. It works!! I went to their stockist in Nottingham, Eternal Spirits, after visiting the companies’ website http://www.faveo.co.uk. They measured me up, fitted me in the right size (before I bought), and I was so impressed I was happy to pay £35! It was very comfortable, supported and lifted my 36F’s like a normal bra (maybe a bit more sideways wobble than a normal bra, but otherwise sat well). They explained the silicone is the same as the one used in hold-ups, so it breathes as well, and is hypo-allergenic. In fact, it is such a comfy bra I tend to wear it as my daily bra (except when it’s in the wash, which is why I’ve ordered a black one from strappybras.com). Don’t get me wrong, I was as sceptical, if not more, as everyone else here, but it really works, and I am now converted!
