Register for YearlyKos!

kos

Online registration ends this Saturday; after that, registration will be at the door only, and it’ll be more expensive. So register now!

The convention looks like it’s going to be awesome — there are some fantastic panels, and an all-star line-up of speakers. Other reasons to go:

-The Drinking Liberally crew are the “cultural curators.” They’ll be organizing happy hours, after-parties, comedy shows and general debauchery.
-Amazing speakers, including:
Donna Brazile
Atrios
Wesley Clark
Ms. Amanda Marcotte
Gov. Howard Dean
-Gwynn Cassidy of The Real Hot 100
David Alpert
John Aravosis
Sen. Richard Durbin
Sen. Hillary Clinton, Sen. John Edwards, Sen. Barack Obama, Gov. Bill Richardson, and Sen. Christopher Dodd
-Yours truly. And I’ll be speaking on my birthday!

If that’s not enough reason, what is? There are many more speakers who haven’t been announced yet.

That said, registration is pricey, as is getting to Chicago. But I’m hoping to organize some sort of Chicago-area get-together while I’m in town, and I’d love to meet those of you who live near the Windy City. Updates will be posted as the date approaches.

  1. I don’t figure to attend the convention (why no per-day pricing? oh well…), but please keep me posted on a Chicago-area meet-up!

  2. Hmm…I noticed in the “about” section that one of the things discussed at the 2006 convention was “balancing family life.” That must have been strictly a theoretical concern, as there was no information anywhere on provisions for child care for attendees during the day.

I mention this because single mothers vote far less often than we should, and progressive organizations miss the boat by not courting us as voters, activists, volunteers. I hope next year they take this into consideration.

It’s probably too late for this year, but I wonder what would be entailed in setting something up for next year. I bet you could find local people who would be willing to volunteer to babysit in exchange for free passes for all or part of the rest of the conference. You’d probably have to do some sort of background check, and I know there are all sorts of regulations about where you can provide childcare. But they really should be able to sort something out.

On the other hand, Yearly Kos really doesn’t seem to be about inclusion, so probably they don’t give a shit.

  4. I believe in 2006 individuals set up a child care thing. They probably did this again, but as individuals rather than a convention sanctioned thing. The convention has stayed out of such arrangements.

This information is probably in the Dailykos diaries on the website rather than the Yearlykos website.

I almost went last year, but couldn’t afford plane tickets. I could drive to this one but its not the weekend I could go.

  5. so probably they don’t give a shit

Yeah, you have childcare, the broads show up whining about FGM and abortion and sexism instead of important issues.
