Morans.

morans
Governor Matt Blunt of Missouri introduces his plan for solving all of his state’s problems; unfortunately, if it works, he may be out of a job.

Here’s a great idea: Prevent abortion clinics from providing sexual health information and safer sex tools to public school sex education programs. Because kids don’t need no sex education anyway, especially when it comes from the place they end up when their lack of sex education bites them in the ass. Better for sex ed to come from the local fundamentalist church, where kids can learn that condoms practically get you pregnant and sex is for rich people. Ignorance is next to Godliness. Or something.

Don’t think too hard about it or it’ll start to hurt. Just smile and vote pro-life.

  1. Oh man, this makes me a little ashamed of my home state. Most of us can spell I swear!

It is very pro life down there, I had an extremely questionable sexual health education. But I went to catholic school so I don’t know how representative it is. (Catholic school is THE thing in St. Louis. ) So yeah, I can’t say I’m surprised.

    Alas…..Go Cards!

  2. I couldn’t read the article because I don’t feel like registering with the LA Times. But I predict that photo will become a blog icon.

  3. Ooh. The Show Me state never dissapoints, does it? The morans are embarrasing, but it is Matt Blunt who really takes the cake. Nothing like some good ol’ fashioned nepotism to keep politics lively, eh? (Matt is the son of Roy Blunt, MO Representitive and Republican Whip). Both of them are real treats. The MO legislature is a bunch of fun, too. They are always pushing some anti-choice/anti-woman/anti-intelligence crap. As a matter of fact, I wrote a little about one gem of legislative excellence called the “Emily Brooker Intelectual Diversity Act” on my blog. I sent a letter to my state rep, and got a “nifty” little reply from him about it. If MO politics interest you, go to my blog and read it. If nothing else, it’s good for a chuckle and a shake of the head.

    Like the morans.

  4. You know, after the November elections, I was starting to have a little hope for my home state. However, the news coming out of there the past couple of days has really made me sad. The PP in Columbia (one of the facilities that is at risk) was an amazing place and provided wonderful care. It would be a shame if they had to close. God, I am glad I got out of there when I did.

  5. rach—I’m in Columbia, and I can vouch that the Planned Parenthood here will not close. However, it will have to discontinue providing abortions because it can’t afford to comply with the TRAP laws.

And talk about your petty swipes, the new law also forbids anyone who “provides abortion services” (read: Planned Parenthood) from providing sex ed in the public schools. Then top that with a healthy push toward abstinence-only sex ed and more money for bullshit crisis pregnancy centers.

PP is holding a rally at Providence and Broadway (where the Peaceworks crows rallys every Wednesday) to protest the bill. I’m going to try to be there.

  6. I should add…

P.S.—Now Missouri will be down to one abortion provider, in St. Louis (which is a far haul for anyone in the far corners of the state). Missouri? Mississippi? Not much difference now.

P.S. again—Thanks, Jill, for covering this. I’ve been hoping that a prominent blogger would pick up this story.

  7. Good catch on the Diedrich Bader lookalike. The photo reminded me of the mythical Irish-Hawaiian dance troupe, the Lovely Houlihans.
