Find the Illegal Immigrant

minutemen
Calling all patriots: Come support the NYU College Republicans this Thursday in protecting our beloved nation from the influx of brown people illegals.

minutemen
If there’s one thing that anti-immigrant nuts aren’t, it’s racist! (Picture from an actual Minutemen rally).

Oh NYU College Republicans. I thought you hit your low point during your affirmative action bakesale. But now you feel the need to top even that proud display of bigotry with your rally this Thursday, titled “Find the Illegal Immigrant – They’re everywhere so it shouldn’t be too hard…

If you aren’t on Facebook, I’ve pasted a screen shot below the fold. Their event page features two pictures, both of which reference the U.S. – Mexico border. The CRs are currently crying that they’re being called out on their racism, and urging people to talk to them at the rally if they’re interested in “intelligent debate.”

Right. Because the best way to promote intelligent debate is to have an event which is described as, “The rules are simple: Be the first to find the illegal and you win a prize.”

It’s fairly clear that although the NYU College Republicans attend a pretty good university, they can’t be bothered to actually do their research on illegal immigration in New York — you know, the place where we’ll all be huntin’ illegals. Because in this state, Mexicans make up just 2% of the illegal immigrant population. The most illegal immigrants come from Italy, Ecuador and Poland. In neighboring New Jersey, it’s Portugal, Poland and Italy.

But the CRs are totally, completely not racist at all. It must be a simple coincidence that their Facebook event page only references those dirty wetbacks Mexican illegals who are stealing the jobs NYU graduates would otherwise be scrambling for.

Details, copied and pasted from Facebook (they’ve now changed some of it in response to various negative comments):

Name:
Find the Illegal Immigrant
Tagline:
They’re everywhere so it shouldn’t be too hard…
Host:
NYU College Republicans
Type:
Causes – Rally
Time and PlaceDate:
Thursday, February 22, 2007
Time:
11:00am – 2:00pm
Location:
South side of Silver
Description
The rules are simple:
Be the first to find the illegal and you win a prize.

There will be more info and refreshments at the table.

And since Google is forever, I’ll extend a special thanks to College Republicans president Sarah Chambers and CR member David Laska, as well as CR member Rick Halmo, the genius who wrote:

we, as CR’s, are free to hold politically incorrect events while at the same time making a point. Not all things politics need to be serious.

What is serious, is how quickly we’ve been able to garner so much attention and controversy, and so mission accomplished. Thanks guys.

(This message will probably piss you crazy wall-posters off more, which I do find funny)

We have more wall posts than people definitely attending this event. The people with no lives giving life-story testimonials to this event wall as if we, the real CR’s, actually give a shit what these people think should consider that we’re doing this regardless, but we appreciate how pissed off you guys get at a joke with which you dont agree.

btw, just another example how small minded people fear other people’s ideas and try to stifle it by attempting to cover it up/silence with their own rhetoric.

GO CR’S.
-Rick (The Captain)

  1. so glad you posted on this, Jill. Stuff like this exposes the perils of white privilege devoid of any social conscience. And regarding that “intelligent debate” the College Republicans claim to invite: The title of the event undercuts any claim of sincerity.

  2. I thought they (JYU-CRp)hit their low point with the talk “Why We’re Best: The Origins of Western Superiority (2001)” or with the pro-Iraq war flyer which depicted the map of Iraq as a bombed out crater.

I know the kids there now are largely if not totally a different than the kids there then, but its not a group I would want my name associated with…

  3. That yellow safety sign is from near where I went to high school. The actual message is not that the illegal immigrants are prohibido, but that crossing the freeway on foot is. Too many people were trying to avoid the checkpoint at Camp Pendleton and getting hit by cars on the freeway. It’s still a problematic image, and definitely comes from a context of trying to capture illegal immigrants, but the intention was safety, iirc.

Sorry if this is too off topic. I can’t even comment on the find-an-illegal game itself.

  4. I’m actually doing a research project on the minutemen for my feminist research class. Where did you get the image of the rally with the Swastika flag? I’d love to use it and see if there are more like it.

  5. I too would like to know where you got the “Picture from an actual Minutemen rally”. I’ve taken a screen shot of your claim, and forwarded that and this page to the MMP. Hopefully they’ll be able to get a nice retraction from you. And, hopefully your readers will learn not to trust what you say.

And, to help with the latter goal, can everyone find the non-Mexico references? Where exactly in the cartoon is there something saying those in line are Mexicans? Couldn’t they also be Central Americans? Couldn’t they be Middle-easterners posing as Mexicans (caution: I know much more about this topic than your host)? Couldn’t they be OTMs?

I also don’t see them saying anything similar to “dirty wetbacks Mexican illegals”; that’s coming from our host’s psyche.

And, as for illegal aliens stealing jobs, should NYU graduates be so selfish as to only be concerned with issues that directly affect them?

I think our host needs to go back to blogging school.

  6. Right. Because the best way to promote intelligent debate is to have an event which is described as, “The rules are simple: Be the first to find the illegal and you win a prize.”

If the “illegal” doesn’t turn out to be an Italian, I want my goddamned money back.

I got the image from Ornicus. If the MInutemen can prove that this didn’t happen at their rally, I’ll happily retract my comment. But it’s pretty well known that Neo-Nazis and other racist groups regularly support and show up to their events. And I have a feeling that Feministe readers will stick around, and will probably listen to someone they regularly read and trust (and who is honest) than some nut who rolls into the comment section spraying spittle everywhere.

I think our host needs to go back to blogging school.

Ha. Already a little busy with law school, my friend. Although if you want to continue to be purposely blind to the implication of this event, go for it.

  8. If I lived in NYC, I could make it real easy for the CR’s and turn myself in. My family certainly had no permission from the local authorities when they rolled in on the Mayflower in 1620.

  9. Couldn’t they be Middle-easterners posing as Mexicans (caution: I know much more about this topic than your host)?

So, what are you saying? They all look alike to you?

Campus Republicans, the Minutemen, and Nazis all look alike to me. Wonder why that is.

  10. Sure, Find out. . . , sombreros are totally symbolic shorthand for Middle-easterners.

I think somebody needs to go back to elementary school.

  11. Wait… we have free health care? And free lemonade? And plentiful jobs?

Oh, I know. When they say “free health care” they mean “you can go the emergency room when the cancer finally starts killing you.”

And “jobs” means “you can work as wage-slaves in unsafe conditions for corporations trying to skim the last couple pennies of profit off their operations.”

And “free lemonade” means… well, that is nice.

Where exactly in the cartoon is there something saying those in line are Mexicans? Couldn’t they also be Central Americans? Couldn’t they be Middle-easterners posing as Mexicans

…They’re depicted with sombreros, chihuahuas, and moustaches. If the cartoonist wanted to imply that they were from other countries (in the middle east or elsewhere), he would have shown at least some of them with stereotypical clothing, etc. from the region–maybe someone in a burka wearing a sombrero, and thus pretending to be a Mexican. As it stands, the cartoon shows none of this. Even if the author was implying what you think he may be implying, he has failed to show it in any way. They’re Mexicans.

(caution: I know much more about this topic than your host)?

I don’t doubt it. But there are lots of people who know lots of things that are utterly wrong. I don’t know exactly what you’re implying here, but just knowing lots of things doesn’t mean you know lots of TRUE things.

That has to be the dumbfuckiest thing I’ve ever read.

Where can one cross the border into the US over land? That would be from Canada or Mexico. And which of those borders has a fence with concertina wire? That would be Mexico.

Middle Easterners can FLY here, dumbass. Why would they go to Mexico and risk death and worse in the Sonoran Desert? Same with Central Americans. It’s called a tourist visa. It’ll get you into the country, and it’s a time-honored way of illegally emigrating to the US. Very little illegal immigration occurs, particularly in New York, via walking over the border. Certainly, there are plenty of people who get smuggled in from China in shipping containers or on boats, but WTF are these NYU students worried about? Do they thing they’re going to have to compete with illegal immigrants for jobs as waiters in Chinese restaurants or non-union construction workers?

  13. There is a counter-protest planned for the same time and place (Thursday from 11 to 2 outside of the Silver Center). As of now, the Facebook group for the counter-protest suggests that four times more people will go to the counter-protest than to the CR demonstration.

  14. I’m confused- these pics don’t look like NYC. Did I miss something?

Pics are from a minuteman rally not from the NYU League of New Jerseyites, I remember from the original Orcinus post they’re from. (just noticed jill’s comment)

I think our host needs to go back to blogging school.

Ah, no, the School of the Americas is only for far right bloggers, where they learn to torture metaphors and have their “teh funny” glands removed.

Couldn’t they be Middle-easterners posing as Mexicans (caution: I know much more about this topic than your host)?

Why? Are you a “middle easterner” who wears a sombrero and dodgy 70’s porn moustache to try to pass as a hispanic?

Oh ffs, they’ve even got those little waist coat thingies.

  15. That has to be the dumbfuckiest thing I’ve ever read.

Dammit, zuzu beat me to it. But yeah, clearly that’s the US-Costa Rica border. Or maybe it’s the US-Lebanon one, I can’t tell from the cartoon.

And I’m confused: weren’t the Mexican illegals trying to “take back” Texas and California, you know, with the reconquista and the la raza business?

Now they’re really Middle-Easterners in disguise, who flew all the way to Mexico so they could walk across the border? That’s a genius plan. These are the terrorists we’re suppsoed to be so afraid of?

  16. I am amazed that “Sarah Chambers, … David Laska …[and] Rick Halmo” created this site, not because I think they’re otherwise nice young people who were momentarily misguided, but because whenever they decide to apply to grad school, look for a job, maybe run for office, guess what’s coming back to haunt them? These are “politically active” students. Do they think that they will get any sort of internship with any elected official if they are pulling stunts like this?

Doesn’t this stuff get archived? How difficult would it be, really, for a determined web-savvy person to find this?

  17. 12: The link doesn’t uphold the contention that that was a Minuteman rally. It also describes how those with the flags were incognito, only OKing showing the flags at the end of the protest. So…

As for the comments about middle-easterners, see the link for just one case of an illegal alien claiming to be Mexican when he was not. Then, start doing your research to see other examples, learn what an “OTM” is, read the 9/11 CommissionStaffReport, read about HezbollahTerrorists coming over the border illegally, and on and on and on.

  18. “This is a recent Minutemen rally. And yes, that’s a Nazi flag there, third from the right.”

How does that not uphold the contention that this was a Minuteman rally?

Also see the links to Neo-Nazi sites, wherein the members discuss bringing Nazi flags to Minuteman rallies.

  19. As for the comments about middle-easterners, see the link for just one case of an illegal alien claiming to be Mexican when he was not.

But did he fly from the Middle East JUST to impersonate a Mexican so he could dodge the Border Patrol? Or did he fly into JFK and pretend to be Mexican when he was caught doing something?

Then, start doing your research to see other examples, learn what an “OTM” is, read the 9/11 CommissionStaffReport, read about HezbollahTerrorists coming over the border illegally, and on and on and on.

No, dear. If you want to use acronyms, explain them. Don’t blogwhore. Your space to argue with the people here is here, not at your own blog.

  20. But did he fly from the Middle East JUST to impersonate a Mexican so he could dodge the Border Patrol? Or did he fly into JFK and pretend to be Mexican when he was caught doing something?

And how do we know he’s not a mexican, pretending to be a middle easterner, who’s pretending to be a mexican?

After all, you can’t trust these inscrutable latinos, it’s nothing but lies within lies with those people.

The link doesn’t uphold the contention that that was a Minuteman rally.

Well it was a rally held by the minutemen, hence the phrase “minuteman rally”. If your english isn’t too good I’m sure you could maybe use the google translation.

Google does do translations of sites into Idiot, doesn’t it?

  21. And to think NYU was my top choice (in the end i got a better aid package from another school), it’s good to know I didn’t share a dorm with these douches

  22. The cartoon says “FREE HEALTH CARE.” Did someone say “Free Health Care”?!?!?! In the U.S.? I think we should be told!

  23. LOL!

Already been said, but.. Since when do we have Universal Healthcare?

I wonder if the purveyor of this fine peice of tripe realized they were unwittingly stumping for the Socialists?

  24. I think our host needs to go back to blogging school.

Good luck getting into blogging school. I tried but it was all full of Mexicans.
