Friday Random Ten – The Sippin’ MaiTais at BlogHer Edition

Ooh, it feels good to whip out an FRT. Yes, I blogged this before I actually left for San Jose, but I’m hoping I at least get a mimosa up in that blogger con.

A further note: Jill has asked me to guest blog while she takes off a few weeks to *drumroll* travel Europe. I know. I feel the same way.

1) Mount Sims – No Yellow Lines
2) Lou Reed – Take a Walk on the Wild Side (which inevitably makes me think of Marky Mark)
3) Josh Martinez – Just a Dood
4) Nouvelle Vague – A Forest (The Cure cover)
5) Edith Frost – Hear My Heart
6) Butthole Surfers – Hurdy Gurdy Man (Donovan cover that was featured on, I believe, the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack)
7) T-Rex – Cosmic Dancer
8) The Magnetic Fields – When You’re Old and Lonely
9) Superwolf (Bonnie “Prince” Billy) – Ignition (R. Kelly cover, and very amusing)
10) Gogol Bordello – Let’s Get Radical

Also, my friend JC sent me this awful and addictive website that tracks your listening habits and suggests music that you may be interested in. So far it insists that I’m really into drum & bass, although 75% of the music on my hard drive probably falls under rockabilly, glam, indie, or punk rock. Go figure.

In any case, you can check out the most popular tracks for a person’s week, or their most played artists, like so:

The patterns it tracks tend to be more dependent on the random function of my mp3 player than what I actually prefer to listen to. Then again I’m the kind of computer user that loads up the entire playlist and lets it go, skipping what I’m not interested in listening to at the time.

  2. Since you left, I’ve been putting this elsewhere, and I’m probably committing a faux pas by cross-posting it, but I would feel remiss if I didn’t put my FRT in Our Leader’s post:

    1) Everclear: Santa Monica
    2) Steely Dan: East St. Louis Toodle-oo
    3) Melissa Etheridge: Chrome Plated Heart
    4) Steely Dan: Deacon Blues
    5) Sublime: Santeria
    6) Jimi Hendrix: All Along The Watchtower
    7) Rage Against The Machine: Street Fightin’ Man
    8) Wicked Tinkers: Jigs ‘n’ Reels
    9) Coelbeg: Jolly Beggar
    10) Lou Reed: All Through The Night
    Random #11) AC/DC: Ride On

Though AC/DC is widely known as an Australian band, three members of their breakout lineup were born in Scotland. Among them was Bon Scott. Ride On haunts me because it is not as is sometimes said Scott writing his own epitaph, but rather looking forward with equal parts resignation and hope.

  9. OK I went out and got an Ipod for only one reason, so I to could be part of this hip meme on Feminiesta, but what is it? Is there a button that brings up ten random tracks? Tell me…I want to be cool to you know. 🙂

Step #1: Go to the main menu.

Step #2: Click the “Shuffle Songs” option.

Step #3: List the first ten songs that you hear.
