Shameless Self-Promotion Sunday November 28, 2010 Jill Leave a short description of something you’ve written this week, along with a link. Make it specific — don’t just link your whole blog. Happy Sunday!
I’m giving a shoutout to other bloggers whose work at enlightening women and social justice inspired me as well as some newer turks on the scene. http://bit.ly/ez70Ks Discussing the ways some black women have damaged the collective image of others by their racist declarations od dating loyalty to black males regardless of reciprocity in — Are Black Women Still Blowing Their Dating Chances With White Men? http://bit.ly/bgilYp
This week at Modus Dopens: The Disability Blog Carnival 71, which got tonnes of great submissions. We’re here, we’re Queer: a look at how queer politics can inform campaigns on economic justice, and specifically, the campaigns against public service cuts in the UK. –IP
An awesome parody of what we learn from Disney movies and a post about how on Thanksgiving, we should create our own customs based on our morals and interests instead of just eating turkey because we are expected to. (In the spirit of Jonathan Safran Foer’s book Eating Animals)
Why is Feminism a Bad Word? While I was reading “History of US Feminisms” by Rory Dicker, I realized there was a change in perception about the word feminism. I wanted to find more information on why this change happened.
Ugh, had a hard time over the last couple of weeks putting together a coherent idea – I have a lot more discarded drafts than actual posts! But I did manage to get out one content-oriented post this week: a personal reflection on what it means to me to be wrong.
I wrote about how my experience of “chivalry” changed as I switched from living in a feminine role to living in a masculine one. That post is also part of an ongoing series called “Masculinity for People Who Don’t Suck,” which is about divorcing our ideas of masculinity from models of domination, kyriarchy and awful behavior towards feminine people. Hope you enjoy it!
At World O’ Crap: Wingnut pundit/dance enthusiast throws himself between Bristol Palin and her foxtrot-challenged liberal detractors and draws a line in the sand, shouting, “This far and no further!” Bristol Palin: America’s Dancing Rasputin.
The Pope has opened a breach in the wall of dogma that will bring the wall down. 350,000 women die in childbirth a year, millions more of AIDS– the force of suffering humanity is pushing against religious repression, and humanity will win. http://kmareka.com/2010/11/25/a-breach-in-the-wall/
This week at my blog, there was a post on the delicious irony inherent in being closeted and about methods of making yourself turned on by something you weren’t before, if you want to.
I seem to have accidentally linked to the same post twice. The second one is supposed to link to http://ozymandias3.blogspot.com/2010/11/sexual-fluidity.html.

Also, frequent guest contributor Holly Grigg-Spall has joined the blogging team at re:Cycling.
Haven’t had any time for writing lately, but I have been gathering a rather large list of amazing pieces that have kept me from overloading on law text books that I want to share! Quick Hits: Where I’ve Disappeared, Suggested Reading and Reteaching Gender and Sexuality Video
Social responsibility, activism, and giving thanks: http://clarissethorn.wordpress.com/2010/11/26/social-responsibility-activism-and-giving-thanks/ Particularly: Looking for advice on how to deal responsibly with an assault that happens among friends.
I wrote several thoughts regarding Transgender Day Of Remembrance and calls for “trans-visibility” http://womenborntranssexual.com/2010/11/21/the-day-of-remembrance/ http://womenborntranssexual.com/2010/11/22/the-day-of-remembrance-postscript/ http://womenborntranssexual.com/2010/11/22/random-thoughts-on-a-statement-regarding-visibility/
This week I wrote a short post about opting out of online discussions (inspired by a comment left on another blog, ironically), and why I’m okay with a little 101 feminism.
This week on Manboobz, a veritable treasury of the best, by which I mean worst, misogyny the Internet has to offer. (Warning: some of the stuff I found is pretty violently awful.) Humorless nitwits pontificating on “why women aren’t funny.” Patriarchal doofus who thinks women are assaulting him by dressing slutty>/a> And then there’s the “Women Are … ” series: collections of horrible generalizations about women from Men’s Rights and other similar sites: Part One, Part Two, Part Three.
I wrote about French and American perspectives on race and tried use these to answer the question “What Am I?”
I’ve got a couple more serious posts on the TSA debacle. Ableism is making the process a nightmare for many people with disabilities. I also drew some links between the sexualized torture at Abu Ghraib and our collective willingness to tolerate sexually abusive governmental policies here in the “homeland.” And because I needed to take a break from being so serious, I examined the latest weird twist in George W. Bush’s “fetus in a jar” story.
I wrote a post! Make other plans, little ladies., about the Walt Disney Company ending their Princess movies. Enjoy!
This week at A Bookish Beemer: In A Message From a Divorced Kid I talk about the experience of being the kid in the middle of a divorce, and how every adult in the situation fails the very people they purports to protect. In A Glimpse of an Employed Epileptic I give readers a peek into what it’s like to be a worker that is also neurologically atypical.
Thanksgiving is over, but there are more family gatherings in store over the holidays. Here are some tips for dealing with anti-choice family members: http://feministsforchoice.com/talking-choice-turkey.htm Have a great day!
This week on Pretty My Life, I covered Stephen Elliott’s “Where I Slept,” the story of a runaway trying to escape an abusive father and becoming a drug addict and narrowly escaping molestation in the process. PrettyMyLife: Stephen Elliott’s “Where I Slept”
I just got my hip replaced, and I’m writing about it. TW for talk of needles, medical procedures and other possibly icky stuff. Maybe you should only read it if you are Mary Roach. http://onefemalegaze.wordpress.com/2010/11/28/the-hip-chronicles-part-i-the-human-pincushion/
I wrote this piece in the Sisterhood blog at the Forward about what feminism is and is not. http://blogs.forward.com/sisterhood-blog/133360/
I just started a new blog, ThingsPrivilegedPeopleDo.blogspot.com. Please do stop by, post a comment, or send a suggestion or two. Three recent posts on Things Privileged People Do: Practice “voluntourism” and call it charity work Pat themselves on the back for being “Earth/animal conscious” Redirect the focus from marginalized people… back to you
This week, I: Had to deal with a potentially triggering situation during a “back to work” course when the tutor inappropriately introduced the topic of corporal punishment for children. For many reasons, this being one of them, I hate the phrase …and it never did me any harm. I wrote about a common mistake of some kinky folks of thinking kinky love is something more profound than any other kind of love, in Isn’t that “love”? I reflected on a common theme in my dreaming, of abandonment nightmares. And I posted another instalment of Cyborg Sleeps my magic/technology tale.
Performing topless: terrifying and empowering – I debuted a new piece which involved removing some clothing. So empowering! Thanksgiving complications (like genocide) – What are we remembering when we celebrate Thanksgiving? Being self employed – Some links (and discussion in the comments) about being self employed

This was just barely over a week ago, but I wrote a blog post about racism at my alma mater as a part of a larger alumni initiative to get the school’s administration to do something about the lack of support for students of color on campus.
I finally came back to my blog after a long long near year of self doubt about my writing ability, something which I am actually hoping to write about in the upcoming weeks. For now, here is a personal recounting about my feelings and experiences in going out of my comfort zone and starting roller derby! http://fucknormativity.wordpress.com/2010/11/24/roller-derby-superstar/
Me. Trying to implement acommodations for my son with autism at our church. I should just bang my head against a wall, it would be over faster….. http://kaiaroon.wordpress.com/2010/11/29/bishop-worthy/

‘I remember reading in a book by Louis de Bernières on the First World War; that in war one learns that there is no end to the things that can be shoved up a woman. Then yesterday I read an article about Fistula problems.’
I put up a video with quotes from some of our NATO allies saying that having openly gay members of the military causes no problems whatsoever. Warning: Fox News doesn’t want you to see this ad! I wrote about how a beautiful Mavis Staples song expresses one part of my Wiccan worship experience. And I got to review a fun book on Wicca for families!
A coworker masturbated in front of me and the next day I was fired. So I made a movie about it. Become a facebook fan! http://facebook.com/harassmentmovie When we reach 1000 fans, I’ll release the third webisode of the webisode series/movie at http://BudgetJustified.com . I just wrote a piece on Whitney Cummings, a hilarious comedian who often covers gender politics in her stand-up. She was the first female comedian to perform in Dubai and Beirut (I also really dislike the rampant racism of Lisa Lampanelli so this is my answer to that): http://prettymylife.wordpress.com/2010/11/30/everyone-loves-a-funny-girl/
