Cats Were Made For Torture

I am the meanest cat owner ever. After torturing Doug and Pablo by squirting dewormer down their throats, I put them in harnesses and took them outside for a drag.

Crazy cat lady, what?

  1. I’m confused. You’re putting deworming medicine in them; that I understand. Livestock should be kept healthy.

Unless you’re really committed to a gristly cut of meat, however, I don’t get why you would take them out for exercise. Keep them in their pens so that the muscle structure stays weak for maximum tastiness.

  2. You let your cats smoke? You’re either a very good or a very bad cat owner.

    Way the hell OT:
You forgot the candy bag in the little girl’s left hand. The shotgun and the bag would make the perfect “trick or treat” dichotomy.

  3. you haven’t discovered Revolution yet – it prevents worms, fleas, ticks and heartworm – and you just squirt a little tube on the back of their heads. costly (about $10/month) but way less hassle. vet says use it year round but once the weather gets cold we stop

  4. Excuse me for chiming in here–I’m aware my name’s not Leslie–but I believe you need to get an Rx from your vet for Revolution. Where you buy the actual meds is another question…you may wish to check out 1800PetMeds.com, which is sometimes cheaper than buying meds directly from your vet. Hope this was helpful…

  5. I need to take my little darling (Lucyfur) in to get spayed and it is making me feel like the meanest owner ever, lol. I know it’s for the best, but she never goes outside and it just seems so wrong to me on some levels to cut them up that way.

  6. Well, B. Moe, I had an inside cat that got out a couple of times… next thing I knew I had 9 indoor cats. Spaying also reduces the risk of some diseases I believe, I know it does in dogs if they are sapyed early enough.

  7. Yeah, I’m gonna get it done, it just makes me feel kinda guilty. There are some, erm…, behavioral issues manifesting themselves as she matures that is making the decision easier.^^

  8. You’re no crazy cat lady. Quantity, not quality is a requirement for crazy cat lady status. I say at least a dozen. Two spoiled cats makes you a normal quality pet owner.

There’s a special exception for cat outfits – bonus points if they’re homemade.

  9. B Moe, a cat that goes into heat and doesn’t get pregnant will just keep going into heat over and over and OVER again. And I mean every few weeks. It’s better for everyone involved if you get her spayed.

1800Petmeds and Drs Foster and Smith are good for meds; most of the time, they’ll call your vet to verify the pet’s weight or whatever. Just make sure you keep the cats separated while the stuff is drying, because it can be toxic if they groom each other while it’s wet.

  10. zuzu- that’s good to know! Of course keeping my four separated is always challenging…. my vet sells me 7 ampules for the price of 6 but now maybe I’ll shift to online. He’s 3 doors down so the convenience makes it too simple. And yes, as several people have pointed out ahead of me it is a prescription item. I don’t know why other than to extort more money.

  11. It’s a prescription item because there are a lot of stupid and irresponsible people out there (present company excepted, of course,) who would a) overuse it, because if a little is good, a lot will be better, right? b) NOT use it correctly, like try to give it orally or in a spot the cat can reach to groom, c) not keep their kitties separated so they can’t groom it off of each other, d) etc., etc., etc…. If it’s a prescription, they have to go through the rules with you, and can’t be held liable if YOU screw up and poison your cat(s).

It’s kind of sad, but that’s more or less the reason. At least once you’ve established yourself as a responsible pet owner, some vets will prescribe stuff for chronic/recurring conditions without an office visit. Our vet has done that for a condition my girl cat has that requires occasional courses of prednisone, NOT a drug that you want to hand out if you are clueless.

Ultimately, they are both looking out for the animals AND covering their own asses. At this point in history, I’m not sure I blame them.
