Friday Random Ten – the Versace shades edition

I know it’s been approximately 17 years since I’ve done one of these, but I thought I might bring it back. Here’s the drill: Set your MP3 player to “shuffle” and post the first ten songs that come up. Here’s my ten, and a few videos:

Passion Pit, who I saw two weeks ago and who were just delightful:

1. Ted Leo – Timorous Me
2. Sufjan Stevens – Chicago
3. Girl Talk – Summer Smoke
4. The Mountain Goats – Pale Green Things
5. The Capstan Shafts – The Flowering Universe Confounds
6. Tom Waits – Baby Gonna Leave Me
7. Rufus Wainwright – Evil Angel
8. The Bad Plus – And Here We Test Our Powers of Observation
9. Grizzly Bear – All We Ask
10. Jans Lekman – Shirin

Girls, Lykke Li and Thao & the Get Down, Stay Down below the fold.

Girls, who make me want to move to California:

Lykke Li:

Thao & Get Down, Stay Down

  1. Ah… Pale Green Things. These are some great choices, but nothing like the song where the evil stepfather dies. The opening chords of that album are among my all time favorite, along with the opening chords of the first Decemberists album.

    Loomer – My Bloody Valentine
Only a Broken Heart – Tom Petty
My Evil Twin – They Might be Giants
    Wicked Little Critta – TMBG
Mr. Club – Pretty Girls Make Graves (I have that?)
Broken Sound – New Found Glory
    Been A Son – Nirvana
    Funtime – Iggy Pop
Love Me Like a River – Melody Gardot
    Control – Fumbata

  2. Thao is really active in the feminist community. Next to Elliott Smith she is my all-time favourite artist, too. I need to buy her album!

    anyway, random 10:

Lift The Veil, Kiss The Tank by Blood Brothers
Don’t Follow by Alice in Chains
I Don’t Blame You by Cat Power
    Moral Majority by Dead Kennedys
Misery And Famine by Bad Religion
Fried My Little Brains by The Kills
The Biggest Lie by Elliott Smith
March of God by The Pillows
    The Park by Feist
City Song by Emmy the Great

  3. Heh. Skipping over “geek” songs (video game songtracks):

Eurythmics – The King and Queen of America
Godsmack – Straight out of Line (hm. Forgot about this song.)
    Delerium – Love
Yo-Yo Ma – Slumber My Darling
    Duke Ellington – The Mooche
    Samurai Collection II – Hiten
    Cannonball Adderley – Goodbye
    Hammerfall – Born To Rule
Bliss – Wish U Were Here
Ayreon – Valley Of The Queens

I am somewhat dismayed by the monarchionormative nature of this random selection, but so it goes, I suppose.

  4. My shuffle never really feels random. I’m certain that my ipod exercises editorial control.

Liz Phair – Baby Got Going
    Sigur Ros – Olsen Olsen
    Palomar – One Haunt
Interpol – A Time To Be So Small
Telefon Tel Aviv – You Are the Worst Thing In the World
    The Killers – Midnight Show
    Sigur Ros – Ny Batteri
Kills – What New York Used To Be
    Portishead – Plastic
    Sigur Ros – Glosoli

  5. Sufjan Stevens – Chicago
Meg Baird – The Cruelty of Barbry Allen
The Black Heart Procession – Your Church is Red
Herman Dune – With a Fistful of Faith
    Jen Wood – Lie 4 a Lie
    Violent Femmes – Good Feeling
Frog Eyes – New Tappy is Heard and Beheld
Yaphet Kotto – Fact or Fiction
    S – Try
    Rufus Wainwright – Rebel Prince

    Similar to Jill’s then!
