Adopt These Blogs

These are two of my favorite reads, one old-to-me and one new-to-me.

The latter is Religious Policeman, the “diary of a Saudi man” currently living in Great Britain. For an excellent introduction to his blog, see “Dear Alhamedi,” a dissection of an advice column that tells a man what to do when his wife won’t do what he tells her.

The former is a long-time favorite of mine, Half-Changed World, a blog that deals with all sorts of family and parenting politics. For yet another great example, see “Happiness and Parenting.”

  1. 1. Tell her to behave.
    …if that doesn’t work…
    2. Go and sleep by yourself
    …and if that doesn’t work…
    3. Beat her
    …because that works every time

Number two is the one that strikes my interest. In this culture it’s only suggested that women use sex deprivation to get what they want, to the point that I originally misunderstood that suggestion to mean, give up and let her alone for a while. Because women don’t like sex, you know. They just lie back and think of England.

  2. I’ve been reading the Religious Policeman. It’s fantastic, isn’t it? I especially loved his “interview” with the SA tourism office. Makes me wanna pack up the suitcases and head to Mecca!
