Ballot Initiative Results

in 2006, I remember running around like a madwoman, trying to find the results of the South Dakota abortion ban initiative.  The media was so busy reporting on the Dems taking control of the House that it was incredibly difficult to find.

Not so this year, it seems.  CNN has got us covered with a table that they will update with incoming results on ballot initiatves all across the nation — including Measure 11, Amendment 48, Prop 4, and Prop 8.  Keep it by your side, and in a few hours you can start obsessively hitting “refresh” along with me.

  1. I dunno if it’s missing info for other states, too, but that CNN page doesn’t list the full MA results- we also have question 2, which would make possession of under ounce of marijuana a civil (not criminal) offense, and question 3, which would ban dog racing. (As someone fortunate enough to live with a rescued greyhound, I’m really pulling for 3 to pass.)

  2. The abortion ban in SD has failed once again.

Note to Leslie Unruh: The people have spoken twice on this now, so please do us all a favor and STFU already, you hypocritical asshat.

The Colorado amendment failed miserably as well.

Right this second, with 9% of the precincts reporting, the amendment to require notification for parents before a minor can get an abortion is slightly ahead 51-49%.

  3. I can’t load the Cali SOS page. I think 2 is winning. I’m disappointed in five losing and nine winning (but it will be court challenged). I’m hoping 8 fails but I think it will pass. I don’t know what will happen to friends and others who married in the last six months.

I don’t think a constitutional amendment should be simple majority.

  4. CBS5 here is saying their exit polling showed Prop 8 losing by 5 points. Castro is going to erupt if that fails.

Prop 4 is now losing 51-49, too, btw.

  5. This incident is going to be reviewed by the Riverside County District Attorney’s office involving a confrontation where a councilman in Beaumont allegedly shoved a woman protesting Prop. 8.

    (excerpt, Press Enterprise)

Berg said that he was on his way Monday to support a group of proponents of Prop. 8 when protesters against the measure were blocking a crosswalk. One woman began shoving a sign in his face and he pushed the sign out of the way, he said.

Berg said he told the group he was a city councilman and told a woman, “You dykes get out of my face. I don’t agree with your queer views.” Berg denied that he assaulted anyone and was unsure whether he used other slurs. He said that was the language gay protesters used to refer to themselves.

Asked Tuesday whether he used a slur to refer to homosexuals, Berg said he was not sure, but he might have because “that’s what they are.”

“It’s not homophobia,” he said. “They are queer. I believe it is an immoral lifestyle. They do not want tolerance, they want acceptance. I am not going to accept their lifestyle.”
