Caturday Kitteh War!!!1!

Sad, but true: I detect a bit of ageism in the favoritism of Leopold and Omar/Percival as the newest, sparkliest Feministe kittehs. Is there no room for kittehs over the age of four on this blog?

Take Doug. At the spry age of four, Douglas is an active kitteh with an excellent motor:

And five-year-old Wilford Brimley Fidelio is also very young at heart. He likes to stay in shape by practicing yoga, and he also loves to lay on play with legos.

Fidel helps us with legos.

We will not tolerate this jeunism on Feministe, and we will not rest until it stops. Today I form the Society for Older Cats’ and Kittehs’ Salvation (S.O.C.K.S.) in protest of this travesty.

Who is with me?

  1. I hope that your club is very inclusive, because if 5 is passing for an “older” cat, I’m not sure what that says about my cat who is 15. Hmm . . .

  2. So what the hell category would that put Mink into? Fossilized? I’ve known more than one cat that lived to age 20/21, so it always amazes me the age at which they decide cats are old.

  3. Mink would be in the category of “younger than my kitty”, Edmund, who is currently suffering from a plague of kitten.

  4. Annie got the “she’s getting up there” label from the vet when she was 11, so I don’t get the “7 is geriatric” thing either. She’s a spry 12 now. Her only show of aging now is a tendency to sleep more and an ability to not freak out about everything. See, she even gets along with the new baby. ๐Ÿ™‚

My grandfather’s cat Samantha lived to be 22. Ten years old is middle aged to me. Four and five years old I equate with a human in their early 20s — just grown and slightly mature, but not anywhere near OLD.

  5. Is S.O.C.K.S a reference to the book Socks by Beverly Clearly that is about a cat who has to adjust when her family brings home a baby? It’s a really adorable book from a cat’s purrrspective.

  6. I love it!! Adult kitties make such great companions, and they are old enough to have learned some manners! Can everyone relate to the “adorable” kitten game of attacking moving feet in the middle of the night?

  7. Wait, 7 is geriatric? What would a 19 year-old cat be then? (Apart from suffering from dementia, the poor thing) Also, I guess I should be embarrassed that I instantly knew which lego set that was.. Love the pic though, it’s the kind of kitteh picture that invariably ends up with a weird caption at icanhascheezburger.com or somplace like that =).
