Open Thread: I’m Quite Busy

So, how’s your Friday going?

  1. You really want to know?

So far so good. Had the usual Friday lunch with all my research group – fun as usual. Now I’m sitting down to edit some code. FORTRAN 77. Good stuff. I’ll have to wait until “after working hours” to write up some posts for another blog.

I’m starting to think that I’ll be the perpetual guestblogger. It’s really gratifying to be invited to write for blogs with relatively large audiences, but I’m worried about being thought of as a blog-whore.

  2. I got that old mojo back today.

I’m a geek for what I do, and when I find a good document, I’ve been known to bounce — literally bounce up and down. So today, me and some of the lawyers who work for me were looking through spreadsheets, trying to correlate a series of events closely enough that it would be clear to laypeople that the bad guys did what we say they did. It’s a small and technical part of a bigger case.

So we crunched, and summed, and matched, and traced one thing from one report to another, and then more, then more, until we had a big block that clearly was what we say it was.

And I started bouncing. We got ’em.

Work has been a grind for a while, and I hadn’t felt the mojo in a while.

There’s still a lot of work to do, but I can show the pattern I need to show. We got ’em.

    I love what I do.

  3. Josh – Damn. Sounds like a scandalous set of circumstances. I’ve been attention-starved on numerous occasions; fortunately for mankind, I never had the impulse to stalk my peers.

Chuck – So it’s not just your shit; it’s also the cat’s shit, right?

Also, if you guys have a chance, The Liberal Avenger wants some feedback on this post.

  4. Anyone who has a cat knows: It’s *always* the cat’s shit, too. The cat is just generally magnanimous enough to allow you to use it.

  5. My Friday sucked royally. There was a flood at work, my scanner died, and my doctor referred me to the “Behavioral Health” Department, aka the head doctors. I am making up for this by petting cats, eating chips, drinking gingerale and watching Monty Python.

  6. Well, my Friday started off promising. In my International Politics class, we wasted almost the entire time talking current events, especially events in Ecuador, Italy, and Belarus. ‘Twas good because first, I love current events, and two, it’s Friday, and I didn’t want to have to take a bunch of notes.

But then I think I strained a muscle in my back, and I don’t know how I did it. So I’ve spent most of the rest of the day trying not to be in massive amounts of pain.

I also watched a documentary on the war in Iraq that was mostly filmed in Texas. That was good.

So yeah…that was my Friday, so far.

  7. Busy, like always. The end of the school year (one week of classes left + finals week) is a big crunch time, since everybody’s assigning projects and papers.
