Friday Random Ten – The Procrastination of Deadlines Edition

If it’s Friday somewhere, it’s time for the Friday Random Ten.

Make sure your boss isn’t around, load up all your mp3s to your favorite player, and list the first ten that appear. Rock out in your cubicle and thank your higher-power-of-choice that it’s Friday. Fellow atheists, thank yourself for having the proverbial cajones to last another week of daily drudgery. Has it been that kind of week for anyone else?

    I went to that Horowitz talk. So I’m going to sit here, get loaded, and write a post on it. I think that “My Laziest Post Ever” is the current working title.

    (It was really, really, really bad.)

  2. Boss? I am my own boss! Envelope stuffing has never been so profitable, thanks to my army of elementary school students who have agreed to be paid in chocolate milk. OK, this time I will not skip over songs that make me look uncool, I swear. These are the real 10:

    (4) Hold on Hope — Guided by Voices
    (5) Through With Buzz — Steely Dan (actually, this is my favorite non-punk song that clocks in under 1:45)
    (6) Where You Get Love — Matthew Sweet
    (7) Baby I’m Drunk — The Reverend Horton Heat, who turns 83 on Friday.
    (8) Brooklyn-Queens — 3rd Bass
    (9) Time Changes Everything — Roy Rogers
    (10) Bo Diddley — Emerson, Lake & Palmer. It’s not even really a cover of the song of the same name by the artist of the same name.

    About 80% successful. Not so bad.

    1) Let’s Settle Down – Vanessa Williams – Bye Bye Birdie 1995 tv soundtrack (That green stuff’s grass, and that smell everywhere – do you know what that is? Fresh air!)

    2) Pinball Wizard – The Who – Tommy (I love the acoustic guitar on this album) (Ironically, when you do an Amazon search in music for “Tommy,” the soundtracks for both The L Word and Queer as Folk come up on the first page. They’re on the Tommy Boy label.)

    3) Veil of Mist – Robert Rich – Rainforest

    4) You Don’t Know Me – Eva Cassidy & Chuck Brown- The Other Side (I love this song, especially when Meryl Streep sang it in Postcards From the Edge. I can strum out a fair rendition on my now long-neglected guitar. Perhaps this summer…)

  13. gah. Am I the only person who hates Eliot’s reading of Prufrock? Completely ruins the opening lines for me, in that nasally intonation. Maybe it’s because I’m a fellow St. Louis native and I think his fake British accent is pretentious and stupid.

  14. No, Eliot’s voice gets on my nerves as well. He has a naturally lovely baritone, but he whines it, ending up sounding more like a caricature than anything.
