I blogged for the Carnival of Allies on being a gay girl turned ‘straight’ queer ally, and about the Aussie release of Grand Theft Auto 4 (sigh).
For Blogging Against Disablism Day, I take issue with unwanted pity and people’s phobia of assistive technology.
I started a feminist blog, entitled “This is What a Feminist Blogs Like.” Also, feministgal, I enjoyed your Madonna piece!
I got political this week – writing about my frustrations with the Clinton campaign and the consequences of the war in Iraq. These type of posts rarely bring in comments, but I think that having an outlet for what I feel are the ‘big issues’ are actually the reason I blog.
In keeping with the lately “sex workers should speak for themselves” theme, I changed the front page of my website to be more reader friendly and focused: Thoughts on Sex Work, From a Sex Worker Herself…. Several of my past articles with summaries are displayed there now. Don’t forget to check out the book in progress about my experiences as an escort.
I talked about White Privilege and how it relates to my life…mostly a personal reflection. Oh, and everyone’s favorite topic: Victim Blaming!!
I’ve had a busy week… I changed over my blog to a new host and wrote a few posts I’m particularly proud of- Fighting Against Breast Cancer…and Also Against Breast Cancer Campaigns Sexualized Ads Become “Obscene” When Guys are the Objects and Tom Ford comments on the lack of male nudity
Last week I posted That’s what I’m talking about., a collection of things I enjoyed, along with Musings from a Black Woman: April Showers, about Miley Cyrus, Feministing’s Jessica Valenti and other inspired witticisms. Enjoy!
I blog on earning, saving, spending, and investing from a feminist perspective. This week job discrimination has been pissing me off.
This week I really focused on the way the feminism tries to construct a monolithic woman without any kind internal searching. In my post Why Black Men Matter I look at why WOC cannot turn their blacks on black men to support the feminist movement. I specifically argue that WOC must fight racism and sexism equally. In a second post entitled East Vs. West The Feminist Divide, I seek to explore the ways in which western feminism seeks to construct Middle Eastern women as the eternal victim without truly confronting the similarities women of both cultures face. A post I wrote entitled Whose Genitals Matter, was chosen for the carnival against sexual violence. Is a discussion of the contrasting attitudes about men in the Congo who reported being touched by witches and sorcerers which resulted in a diminishing of their penises and women in the Congo who were raped. It has been a busy week at womanist-musings.. It is my hope to continue to blog about race, class, gender within a womanist framework.
I write two posts on victim-blaming because some of my readers still don’t get it. Sexual assault seems to be a popular topic on the Female Impersonator bog in the past couple of days.
i wrote about “affectional orientation” a more inclusive term than “sexual orientation” http://queersunited.blogspot.com/2008/05/open-forum-affectional-orientation.html
I’ve started blogging about sex, race, and intersectionality. I’ve only really got one big post up yet, but I’ll try to have more later.
I wrote about the joys and bliss of trying to find an accessible flat for Blog Against Disabilsm Day: A Place To Call Home. I also wrote about my *thrilling* experiences with one of our provincial parties this weekend, called I hurt my computer by hitting the keys too hard. Basically, I am fed up with political parties campaigning *about* working class Canadians, people below the poverty line, young families, and people with disabilities instead of campaigning *to* them. (Cuz, we should just sit down and show up on “E-day” and not do anything else – like attend party meetings, apparently.)
I wrote about property rights and sustainability in land and in music – there’s a bit of a feminist critique lurking in there that will be more evident in future posts.. and I try to model citing some of my sources (and naming others), with a HT to the recent debacle (not the most recent, the debacle before that one).
I’ve written about the announcement that the HPV vaccine (preventing cervical cancer) is to be rolled out in New Zealand, and some of the absurdities of those opposing it. My fellow blogger Anna McM has covered the downsides of income splitting for tax purposes, and how it reinforces traditional gender stereotypes.
I finally updated my oft-neglected blog with a post about acquaintance rape, everyone’s favorite topic to dismiss and/or ignore.
I’ve been writing about why kids enjoy rape on TV, why I love Kate Bush, reflections on a feminist conference I went to and more on body hair!
P.S. You should also check out my bf’s blog! Socialist Cephalopod He has been writing about a new ‘Gas OPEC’, reflections on the same feminist conference, Venezuela, the food crisis and female MCs!
Coming to you from the stone age: Legal sex change in Germany requires people to give up their reproductive functions.
Not as much activity for me as last week, but I have a brief post about misogyny in young adult literature. Hopefully in the next couple days I’ll also finish my post about race & class-based critiques of street lit.
This week I talked about the discussion of feminist role models that often emphasizes a tangible disconnect between anti-racism and feminism. The racialization of swimming ability And my partner covered James Watson’s latest apology.
Here’s a story that deserves a lot more attention than it’s gotten: The editor in chief of the U Conn student newspaper was sexually assaulted in public during her college’s Spring Weekend, and she wrote about the assault in a front-page article a week later. The link above is to my blogpost on the story. Her article can be found here. (Registration may be required.)
So I already posted but– Just wrote a looong piece addressing a victim-blaming comment left by a troll. I’m sick of just deleting his garbage.
I wrote a lot of things I’d like to think are rewarding reading, but these are probably my best two of the past few days– Okay, the (latest) Rev. Wright thing Oh boy (about a woman who was awarded the Silver Star–the nation’s third-highest medal for bravery in combat–being removed from combat. Why? Because chicks can’t fight.) C’mon by, set a spell.
Yesterday was the anniversary of the Kent State Massacre I also wrote a pretty good obituary for the good Dr Hofmann
This is a day late for Sunday, but I just put up a post about how Immigration Enforcement is hurting survivors of DV here in Austin, TX by setting up a permanent office in the Travis County Jail. Also, if anyonre here knows of bloggers out there in the larger immigration-related blogging community who are covering this or related topics, I’d love to know about them. My knowledge of the topic comes from working at a legal non-profit and not from extensive blog reading in this area.
