Role Models March 19, 2008 Anne “I say repeatedly to New Yorkers and Americans, listen to your grannies. Your grannies know what is up.” Kudos to these women!
It made me remember back at the beginning of this war, when I was living in the Twin Cities and protesting with some amazing elderly women from Women against Military Madness… I don’t know. There is just something so amazingly breathtaking about physically standing in solidarity with women from all different walks of life, different ages, different SES and racial/ethnic backgrounds. Sigh. It really sucks that the powerful spirit I felt among so many people did literally NOTHING to halt the progress of this shit.
Wow, that’s really cool. And when you think about it, they’re in a really good position to draw attention to this issue. Who wouldn’t notice a group of old ladies with knitting needles and protest signs? And plus, most cops and judges aren’t too enthusiastic about putting elderly women in jail. Also, I don’t understand how there are pro-war protesters. What are they protesting — that we aren’t killing enough? How can you protest to SUPPORT a war? That just boggles my mind.
My new favorite quote from a granny: “Give Iraq our Constitution, we’re not using it,” ~Marie Runyon, age 93
I’ll happily listen to other people’s grannies, but mine were, well…kind of messed up. But my mom is awesome, at least…
My parents and grandparents still think Bush is doing a pretty good job … even in Michigan, which has the worst economy in the nation. *sigh*
