Friday Random Ten – Half-Assed Edition

Since the regular computer with all the music files is broken, I’m resorting to my wee mp3 player in which only fifteen music files are stored. This is the stuff I jog to.

1. The Kleptones – Bite
2. Bone Thugs and Notorious B.I.G. – Notorious Thugs
3. Too Short – Gettin’ It
4. Pharcyde – Other Fish In The Sea
5. Crucial Conflict – Hay
6. Pharcyde – Runnin’
7. Too Short – Short But Funky
8. Biz Markie – The Vapors
9. John Legend – I Used To Love You
10. Cee-Lo Green – The Art of Noise

I prefer the slow-ish jams when I jog. It keeps me from overestimating my speed abilities.

  1. I can say with all honesty that I know perhaps one of the artists on that list. My extremely narrow taste for hiphop is limited to esotery like Dälek or Sage Francis.

  2. “It keeps me from overestimating my speed abilities.”

This is no shit! I learned the hard way to keep the Red Hot Chili Peppers the hell out of the jogging mix! Kickboxing or walking, yes. Running, no!

  3. I prefer slowish jams when I’m running, too – keeps that heart rate in check. My random ten this week isn’t from my mp3 player and slow jams aren’t represented. It’s still good though.

  15. You like Too Short’s “I Need a Freak”? That’s my favorite by him. John Legend is a god, but if you’re digging on him, you MUST check out Van Hunt. Buy the CD without even sampling it. I guarantee that you’ll NEVER regret it. Sir Mix A Lot has a fun song that was never on the radio called something like “Chief Boot Knocker” that’s catchy and great to run to as well. That’s my two cents!

  17. Okay, I want to play Random 10, too. Here’s what I got when I’m rocking my mp3:
    1. Soldier – Destiny’s Child
    2. Float On – Modest Mouse
    3. Hypnotize – Notorious B.I.G.
    4. The Next Episode – Snoop and Dre
    5. King of the Dancehall – Beanie Man
    6. Since U Been Gone – Kelly Clarkson
    7. Get Down On It – Blue (yep, it’s a remix by some white boys)
    8. Superstitious – Stevie Wonder
    9. Okay – Nivea
    10. Drop It Like It’s Hot – Snoop and Pharrell

  18. Party Shuffle says:

    Midnight – Peter Green
Out of Limits – The Challengers
I Can’t Stand It – The Spencer Davis Group
New Girl in School – Jan & Dean
    Barroom Confidential – Twistin’ Tartanulas
Jig of Life – Kate Bush
    Tight Turn – The Raybeats
My Bonnie – Tony Sheridan & The Beatles
Lady Willpower – Gary Puckett and the Union Gap
    Pink-Peg Slacks – Eddie Cochran

  19. HDL: Despite Too Short’s lyrical content, he can’t go wrong by me. It’s too bad to be taken seriously. And as far as Sir Mix-A-Lot goes, it’s all about “Posse on Broadway.”

  20. O Seasons, O Castles – Lene Lovich
Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth – Sparks
Tokyo Rose – Van Dyke Parks
    Melange – Klaus Schulze
Tuesday Afternoon (Forever Afternoon) – Mark Nine
Now That I Own the ABC – Sparks
SHOSTAKOVICH: String Quartet Nº 8, in c, Op. 110: Largo – Kronos Quartet
    Remove for Improvement – Wire
A Mutual Friend [J. Peel rec.] – Wire
WEILL: Berlin im Licht – Angelina Réaux
