Friday Random Ten – the Goodbye Again edition

I’m heading out to the Rhine to see some castles. If comment moderation is slow, that’s why. See you all on Monday!

1. The Notwist – One With the Freaks
2. Tom Waits – November
3. Radiohead – Sit Down. Stand Up
4. Jets to Brazil – Sea Anemone
5. The Kinks – Big Sky
6. Bob Dylan – Mozambique
7. John Coltrane – Resolution
8. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Girl at the Bottom of My Glass
9. Common – Come Close to Me
10. Bill Evans Trio – Jade Visions (Take 2)

And a Friday West Wing clip, because I’ve spent all evening trying to find The Wire on iTunes and it looks like they don’t have it, so I may just have to order the first two seasons of The West Wing instead. Which is ok, because I’m pretty much completely in love with Sam Seaborn.

  1. That was a great clip! Love that show! Unfortunately, these bible-thumping, jesus-freaks are all over the White House.

How many days are left before these thugs are gone???

  2. Too bad about The Wire; I have the first three seasons on DVD and it’s one of the best TV series I’ve ever seen. Out of the huge ensemble, there’s nary a weak performance, and the realism borne of creator David Simon’s experience as a reporter for the Baltimore Sun really shows through. I think they’re currently filming the final (fifth) season right now.

    1. Deadbeat Club by The B-52s
    2. Eyes of Green, Green, Green by Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci
    3. Done Gone Blue by Los Lobos
    4. The Magnificent Five by Adam and the Ants
    5. Jet Flight by Sun Ra
    6. You Said by LaVern Baker
    7. The Holland Song by Two Nice Girls
    8. Doll is Mine by Blonde Redhead (seeing in 9 days)
    9. The Horn by Max Romeo
    10. Up Yer Bum by Peter and the Test Tube Babies

  3. I’ll go ahead and second The Wire enthusiasm. Particularly the third season, which is about as good a depiction of the conflict between formal politics, ethics and society as I’ve ever seen. You know, because that’s such a common topic on TV and all! I feel like Ron Popeil here, but seriously. Can’t wait for the fourth and fifth seasons to come out on DVD.

  4. norbizness, they just completed filming of the last ever episode of The Wire. *cries* There was this article about it in the WaPo earlier this week. There is also a short video with the cast and crew. I am thrilled that Clark Johnson will be back on my tv screen (I adored Meldrick Lewis). New season is set to premiere January 6.

  5. I love The West Wing with an intensity that’s somewhat embarrassing. And while I know that Sam is the “good” guy, I can’t help but love Josh, the guy who just wants to please everyone, and Toby, the cynical idealist. (Is that even possible?)

And let’s not forget the amazingly talented, utterly gorgeous, hilarious Alison Janney as CJ…

    Sigh.

  6. I’m going to jump on the bandwagon of love for both The Wire and West Wing. I finished watching the last two episodes of the 3rd season this morning. Anyone else love Omar and Kima?

I’m with the CJ and Josh love. This clip was awesome, but my all time favourite is the one where they’re having a radio broadcasters gathering at the White House and POTUS destroys a Dr Laura-esque women’s arguements against homosexuality. This is quickly followed by Sam stealing her lobster puff and exiting. Gold! Hey I found it!
