Just got back from the torture chamber

Those of you who read my blog regularly will be familiar with the cast of regulars: me, my scooter, Ashanti (cute youngest daughter), Kat (cute-but-troubled oldest daughter), and various neighbors and friends. You also know that one of my favorite pasttimes is taking pictures of Ashanti and obsessively posting them. I think it has something to do with the fact that I’ve always been a rather plain, unremarkable woman, but somehow her father and I managed to produce this lovely child. And Ashanti has resigned herself to the fact that even her smallest, most embarrassing moments sometimes make it onto my blog.

So with that, here is Ashanti, just back from the doctor’s office, where she got her blood drawn, had to pee in a cup, and got two booster shots and the HPV vaccine. She cried when the nurse took the blood, fat little tears just dripping out of her eyes and onto her jeans.

So proud mama took pictures (yes, I’m horrible). I tried to get her to look sad and tortured, but it just made her laugh.

  1. Oh no! Watching the little ones cry is the worst, even if it IS for their own good. At least it’s over! It looks like she’s of an age where she won’t have to get anymore for a good long while.

  2. I am SO glad I don’t have to stick needles in kids (worked in labs for years) anymore; always wanted to stop and cry with ’em! Take a deep breath, Ashanti; you did it!!

  3. Sorry your kid had to suffer a little. You’re right, she’s adorable.

I just hope when she hits 14 or so she doesn’t hate you for posting these pix.

  4. Ha, aren’t you afraid she’ll run out and have SEX now? I heard that HPV vaccine turns little girls into cheap tramps within hours!!

    /snark

Poor baby. Give her a kiss for me.

Eh, she’ll be 14; if she doesn’t hate me for this she’ll hate me for something else. I’ve already been through the teenager-hatred stage; I’m not worried about it.

I can’t wait for her first abortion–I’ve already planned the celebration party for afterwards!

  7. Ack, the cute! How do you expect your readers to maintain their baby-hating feminist stance if you post pictures of cute kids all the time?

  8. i totally want those bandaids.

i note that she’s wearing adorable child glasses. do you have a hard time getting her to wear them? my niece had a pair but who knows where they are now…

also, i remember going with this particular niece to the doctor’s office when she was a wee little widget. my sister was only 17 and she brought us, her younger sisters, along for support while her new baby got innoculated. and oh my god, when they stuck the needle into my niece’s fat little rolly baby thighs; when she at first looked at us confused, then hurt, then beTRAYED by her loving aunties and mommy (how could we allow such a thing to happen?!); when tears began to roll down her little baby cheeks, we all started to cry.

She started wearing glasses in kindergarten, I think. And yeah, it was hard keeping them on her once the novelty wore off. But now her eyes have gotten bad enough that she really needs them, so it’s not such an issue anymore.

And I just have to say, “Yay, midwestern transport! Haven’t seen you in a while!” 🙂

  10. She is so cute. I myself, however, am fixated by the beautiful necklace/pouch hung on the thermostat in the background. 🙂
But geez, four bandaids? I would have angled for TWO popsicles.
