Jordin Sparks Remarks On Her “Weight Problem”

The AP reports on this very important news:

How will she stay grounded, resisting entertainment industry pressures that can include an extreme emphasis on weight?

Translation: Are you going to stay a Fatty McFatfat or are you going to get skinny like the beautiful, successful people?

“Oh, that super-thin stuff ā€” Hollywood needs to get over it,” she said lightly.

  1. It’s important! Considering how we (forgive me) idolize the darling children of the media, having American Idol winners like Jordin Sparks and Kelly Clarkson say “I’m just fine, thanks” is big.

  2. If it wasn’t big, it wouldn’t freak out folks like Me!Me! Roth so much. I hope she sticks to it. Though I’ve long given up on looking to celebrities as role models on weight issues, maybe Jordan is the one and that wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.

  3. I wish the woman’s size weren’t an issue, or even considered a topic of discussion. But at least this is Ms. Sparks speaking for herself, not MeMe Roth offering her unasked for opinion.

Queer feeling in your stomach, eh? I’m not quite sure how to take that.

I just hearted your tag line for the blog, had to steal it in some way.

  5. I don’t really watch the show, but isn’t it decided primarily by popular vote? So who is Meme chastising for voting for Jordin? The voting audience? Because it would seems that non-thin people already have gained approval from the public based on the outcome of the show (if not necessarily the media.)

And if her motivation is good health, why would she choose being overweight as the target factor when celebrities like Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton and Britney Spears regularly exhibit unhealthy behaviors (smoking, poor diet, risky behavior, drinking and driving, etc.)….

…unless all she’s doing is picking on fat people.

  6. Good for her.
Let’s see how much weight she has lost in a “completely healthy” way and “because she wanted to” “without any pressure” in a year’s time.
