  1. And we haven’t had a single frost yet nor are we likely to have one before December. But don’t worry, it’s all a coincidence and global warming doesn’t exist.

  2. Well, it hasn’t been that bad in Seattle. Yes, it was grey for a long time, but we had some sunshine here and there. Yesterday it snowed and we got a couple of inches. More is falling today (perhaps another 2 inches). Kids are sledding on a hill behind my home and there’s little to no ice on the roads. According to early models of global warming, Seattle can expect that this trend will continue for many years to come.

  3. i can’t believe that NY times article felt compelled to give people a pronunciation lesson on how to say “rainier”. doesn’t everyone know how to pronounce it? were they serious or being tongue in cheek?

  4. If I hadn’t been tipped off, I would have said “rain-ee-er.” Like, you know, “more rainy.” Obviously it isn’t named for the rainfall, but that didn’t connect to “pronounced differently” in my head.

  5. It does suck! It’s still snowing and it’s freaking COLD – the roads tomorrow are gonna be nothin but ice!

  6. If global warming means colder, wetter, snowier weather for Seattle, I’m voting straight Republican from here on out. I went and got more espresso grind for our machine in Saturday’s snow and it was glorious.

  7. Whoa, Nelly, today is going to be a dandy.

Slowdowns everywhere. Some people couldn’t even get home from the Seahawks game last night. Most schools in western Washington are closed. I’ll be surprised if a third of my students here at UW show up.

And guess what? More snow predicted for Wednesday, but at least temperatures will be above freezing.

  8. The Pacific NW usually is better than NYC this time of year, but this is a big one. The last time we had this much snow was 1996 and that was twice as much. 3 years ago we had half this much. Usually it lasts a day or two at most but this time we actually have below freezing temps during the day for 3-4 days. It’s very bad for the flowering bushes that are out, and all the flower beds that’ve been set out.

What? You don’t set out flowerbeds in NYC at the start of December? The grass isn’t green? The bushes aren’t flowering? But it is warmer there than here — this time. 🙂
