  1. I especially wanted to share this great apple pie recipe for Thanksgiving. I figured out this technique a few years ago and it has been providing perfect apple pies for our family ever since. It prevents your pie from being soupy or soggy and instead has a full-bodied apple flavor, great texture, a perfect flaky bottom crust, and apes all the way up to the top!

      2. Five years ago, I would have questioned your choice of milkshake over hot cocoa. Now, with my campus experiencing 80-degree days leading up to Thanksgiving, your milkshake seems the logical choice in the face of climate change.

      3. I have been sickly lately. I was cold, so I wrapped up. But I was also hot, so I wanted a milkshake. And I was feeling pitiful, so it was chocolate 🙂

  4. An update/rant:

    As of September of this year, I am no longer homeless! 🙂 I have a cute, little apartment in a crummy building with an apathetic landlord. But, I have an apartment!!!!!

    I had expected to hit the ground running after I found a home – go back to school, work on my career, etc. I never expected that I would have to re-learn how to be a homemaker. I have to re-learn how to organize my things instead of throwing everything in the backseat of my car. I have to re-learn how to eat properly instead of grabbing anything that’s filling. (You should have seen how my face lit up when I was in the store and I realized that “I COULD MAKE PIZZA!”) I remind myself that I don’t have to push myself if I become too ill now that I have a place to rest and recharge. That’s not even getting counting the times when you catch yourself falling back into your old habits – washing yourself in the sink instead taking a shower, for example, and not taking care of your appearance. I was never prepared for this re-acclimation period, and it’s really frustrating.

    So…I’ve started tracking what I eat just to see how I can improve in that way. Since I’ve been transferred to a job in a fancy-shmancy office building, I try harder to look neat. I’ve organized my bathroom (for the most part) and I have a full pantry.

    Now, if I could only get internet access at home….

  7. Hey girls! How about talk about American Latin women? We suffer a lot of prejudice from the European guys who thinks that our countries just have prostitutes. We want respect, equality. Stop the misogyny! Stop the xenophobia!

  8. Just wanted to say how great it was to find this site, that is so clear on women’s rights and so solidly against victim blaming. I needed to find this right now.

    Over the last few days I commented on some articles about rape in the mainstream media. I was responded to with so much abuse, denial, obfuscation and weird, twisted logic that I became really upset for a few days. I realised that although I do have a right to participate in internet discussions, it was hurting me and life is too short to feel so lousy.

    I closed my commenting accounts (telling the newspapers why) and went looking for media that would make me feel like a human being again.

    And I did. So thank you. I now have a small collection of bookmarks, including this blog, of better media, where I can read about news and ideas without being made to feel like dirt. In fact I am actually feeling good after reading a bunch of articles here 🙂

  10. You know how around this time of year, local news stations will air holiday greetings from military servicemen and servicewomen who are stationed overseas? For the first time, I saw a young female soldier (who was also a WOC) wishing her “fiancee and her family” happy holidays! I don’t know this woman, her fiancee, or their families; it just made me so happy that she was able to say that in uniform and on television. You should’ve seen the big, beautiful smile on her face!

  11. Hey, I keep having an issue where I get redirected to ad sites about half the time I load Feministe. Usually I end up in some gardening supply website. This happens on multiple different computers and only on Feministe, so I’m pretty sure it’s not malware on my end. Is this a monetization thing? Honestly, it’s much more irritating than just more ads on the main page, if you need the revenue.

    1. It’s definitely not anything I’ve set up deliberately, I’ll have to check it out when I get back in front of my computer ( about to watch some star wars with the family).

      2. It’s happening to me too, and it’s driving me up the wall. But it’s happening at another site for me, as well, also a blog, for what that’s worth. Maybe it’s the same platform?
