Good News in New York

Transgender people are protected by our state’s anti-discrimination and human rights laws. So congrats, trans folks: Thanks to a local judge, you’re now considered human, and worthy of basic rights!

Excuse the snark. While this is certainly a victory, I think it’s sad that it’s even an issue.

    On the other hand, I was really pleased with the article. No confusion of pronouns, a very simple and yet straightforward explanation of what being transgender is, and a clear-headed take on the case. Kudos to the AP.

    Yes, this was nice. The AP stylebook recommends that transpeople be referred to by their preferred gender pronouns; hopefully, journalists will eventually figure out that pronoun-switching creates more confusion than it allays.
