Shameless Self-Promotion Sunday January 4, 2015 Jill Promote yourself. Netiquette reminders: Want to recommend someone else’s writing instead? Try the latest signal-boosting thread. we expect Content Notes as a courtesy to our readers for problematic content in linked posts and/or their comment threads (a habit of posting only triggering/disparaging links may annoy the Giraffe (you really don’t want to annoy the Giraffe)), Content Notes are not needed if your post title is already descriptive of problematic content. extended discussion of self-promotion links on this thread is counter-productive for the intended signal-boosting – the idea is for the promoted sites to get more traffic. If it’s a side-discussion that would be off-topic/unwelcome/distressing on the other site, take it to #spillover after leaving a note on this thread redirecting others there.
Hey ladies of BlogHer! I’m going to be shameless here, since that’s the theme of the day. My name is Courtney Thompson and I’m a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant in Matteson, IL – just outside of Chicago. I am great at foundation shade matching, skin care regimen building, and general fabulousness. I work with people all around the country, not just locally, and would love to work with you as well. I love to have fun and I love making sure other ladies have fun as well. Contact me via my website, or by email at courtneythompson@marykay.com. I can’t wait to work with you!
Hi Courtney, Feministe is not BlogHer, BlogHer are one of our advertisers. The ladies of BlogHer won’t see your post here, so if you want to contact them I suggest you click on one of their ads here to be taken to their website and use their contact form.
Let Us Now Speak of Monsters and Humans: if we wish to disrupt and end rape culture, we need to stop seeing rapists as nothing but inhuman “monsters”–and recognize humanity even in people imprisoned for dehumanizing acts.
We put up a couple of year-in-review posts: Our bloggers picked their favorite posts of 2014, and we compiled some of the top reprojustice headlines of 2014. Also, for Tuesday’s 20th anniversary of the Brookline clinic shootings, we shared a post about the attacks (which ultimately led to Massachusetts’ buffer zone laws — struck down by the Supreme Court six months ago).
I wrote about whether, just as in medieval times, American catholic women joined the convent because it was The Best Option for Intellectual Women. In Psalm of a Soiled Dove, I do a little play-exegesis and imaginatively reconstruct a backstory for the author of Psalm 84 as a woman who had been forced into sexual slavery by a marauding army, then freed and welcomed by the Israelites.
While we still have a long way to go, there were some great roles for women on film and behind the camera last year. I shared some of my favorite women-centric films of 2014. Come check out the list and let me know which ones I missed.
Over at delagar, I blog about a conversation with my kid: Life Skills. Also, here in this post, I discuss the latest issue of the SF/F magazine I edit for, Crossed Genres: Indoctrination. If you follow the links, you can find submission information for the magazine! We pay professional rates and are a SFWA qualifying market.
CN – death by suicide, transphobia, A 24 year old trans man died by suicide in Pittsburgh on December 13. His name was Andi Woodhouse. A 17 year old trans girl died by suicide near Cincinnati the very next week. Her name was Leelah Alcorn. A New Year’s Resolution let me to my partner, Ledcat. My Top Ten Blog Posts of 2014.
So, heterosexual and bisexual women, along with heterosexual men were interviewed. But what about bisexual men? It seems kind of interesting that none would show up, especially in San Francisco.
Sorry to double post, but I forgot to mention that it also doesn’t feel right, because the post and Dr. Lamont’s writing makes it seem like bisexual men don’t exist, like they’re identity is being erased. 🙁
SHAMELESSLY promoting my blog – it is a character blog about a single woman. Think ironic, silly and feminist at heart.
