Shameless Self-Promotion Sunday December 21, 2014 Jill Promote yourself. Netiquette reminders: Want to recommend someone else’s writing instead? Try the latest signal-boosting thread. we expect Content Notes as a courtesy to our readers for problematic content in linked posts and/or their comment threads (a habit of posting only triggering/disparaging links may annoy the Giraffe (you really don’t want to annoy the Giraffe)), Content Notes are not needed if your post title is already descriptive of problematic content. extended discussion of self-promotion links on this thread is counter-productive for the intended signal-boosting – the idea is for the promoted sites to get more traffic. If it’s a side-discussion that would be off-topic/unwelcome/distressing on the other site, take it to #spillover after leaving a note on this thread redirecting others there.

Riffing off a piece by Kate Harding, I wrote about how from Ferguson to UVA, we have to stop blaming the victim.
This week I wrote about the linguistic phenomenon “Amazing Nanny” and what that has to do with our child care system. I also wrote a more lighthearted piece about why women just out of the pregnancy/nursing stage deserve a new bra. And finally the frivolous My Kid Is Going To Ruin Santa for Your Kid.
Many abortion opponents claim to be protectors of women’s health, but states with the most restrictions on abortion tend to rank lowest in well-being for women and children. So why do they co-opt the language of “women’s health” when fighting against reproductive rights?
Recently I wrote about why we should stop using words like “good” and “bad” to describe food or eating. At the airport on the way home I threw together a listicle round-up that deals with sex myths and sexuality. I also put together my 12 favorite Christmas songs by women (and would love your suggestions to add to my playlist!).
I started an art blog to display some of my work and chronicle my progress Actually, it’s a Collection of Things

Intersectional analysis of Christmas with crafts and lots of glitter?! What could be more fun and feminist? HOLY HOLY FEMINIST CHRISTMAS
Hi! I recently started my blog, Hannah Beth Thinks. I aim to write primarily about gender issues and unhealthy cultural messages in an accessible, fresh way. “Doom and Gloom: Being Single in Our Couple-Crazed World” explores the stigma of singledom. Please take a look and feel free to comment 🙂
