Shameless Self-Promotion Sunday November 30, 2014 Jill Promote yourself. Netiquette reminders: Want to recommend someone else’s writing instead? Try the latest signal-boosting thread. we expect Content Notes as a courtesy to our readers for problematic content in linked posts and/or their comment threads (a habit of posting only triggering/disparaging links may annoy the Giraffe (you really don’t want to annoy the Giraffe)), Content Notes are not needed if your post title is already descriptive of problematic content. extended discussion of self-promotion links on this thread is counter-productive for the intended signal-boosting – the idea is for the promoted sites to get more traffic. If it’s a side-discussion that would be off-topic/unwelcome/distressing on the other site, take it to #spillover after leaving a note on this thread redirecting others there.
Recent post from me @anewselfwritten: Child abuse – or confronting abuse – what’s the real taboo? Also new poetry on the site. Please pay a visit and tell me what you think. anewselfwritten.org
Two economists have crunched the data on mothers, fathers, and child care, and found that the cultural truism that mothers simply like caregiving more than men is false. Men enjoy their time caring for their kids just as much, if not more, than mothers do. However, mothers report significantly more fatigue and stress than fathers do–and multitasking might be the culprit.
What does it mean to amplify as a blogger? Two different hospital systems in two different parts of Pittsburgh worked in tandem to save the life of a baby whose pregnant mother was killed in a car accident. It makes us sad to realize that their parent companies continue to engage in a brutal PR battle for health care supremacy. I wonder when it will inevitably mean babies like Trace Joseph won’t survive. I found a way to make Elf on the Shelf palatable – he’s now named Bersnicel after a folklore companion of St. Nicholas. Ledcat and I have celebrated 12 Lesbian Thanksgivings together. Here are some highlights (and lessons.)
Should You Take T? 7 Suggestions To Help You Decide. The advice I wish someone had given me about testosterone therapy.
After reading Jill Filipovic’s profile of anti-choice protesters in Cosmopolitan, I wrote about some concepts that they clearly don’t understand: I don’t think that means what you think it means: anti-choice protester edition. I also did a roundup of some insightful commentary and reporting on Ferguson and the lack of accountability for Darren Wilson: “Violence is not the answer but neither is peace”: Ferguson roundup.
Rethinking Pie: I used a Thanksgiving tradition to reflect on my shifting relationship with my mother, and how mother-daughter bonds negotiate with time, illness–and food.
I finally saw Tangled, and I have to say, the climax really disturbed me. Also, my Black Friday links round-up focused on Ferguson activism, including #blackoutblackfriday.
Last week, Bitch Flicks‘ theme week was “The Terror of Little Girls”–here is a roundup of all of the posts.
I worked excruciating hours (and am still in pain) so there will be more content next week. This time, have my pie recipes (and banoffee pie is amazing) and a few holiday sales, good through Monday. And I had a book release, a gay winter holiday anthology.
I have a blog exploring unschooling and alternative education called I’m Unschooled. Yes, I Can Write., written from my perspective as a grown unschooler and green-anarcha-feminist.
A journey of a brazilian pagan trying to come back to his home. Sorry, texts written in portuguese only.
I forgot to link my recent text: http://betoquintas.blogspot.com.br/2014/11/a-estetica-dos-mitos.html
Some thoughts on why I’m unimpressed by the media’s belated coverage of the allegations against Bill Cosby.
The search for the philosopher’s stone was the quintessential pursuit in the occult spiritual tradition of alchemy. The Emerald Tablet of Hermes is one of alchemy’s most famous texts. The Emerald Tablet identifies as unique the assembly of “three parts of the philosophy of the whole world.” I have “three parts of the philosophy of the whole world.” 1 – What Is Consciousness by Bill Harris – http://www.rsdnation.com/files/biff6.doc 2 – Decoding the Blueprint: Part VI by Drama – http://www.rsdnation.com/files/biff7.doc 3 – Eckhart Tolle Principles by Tyler – http://www.rsdnation.com/node/71430 Psychologist Carl Jung refered to the philosopher’s stone as the “living, philosophical stone,” which implied continuity with the “living stones” of 1 Peter 2 and alchemy’s philosopher’s stone. The living stones in 1 Peter 2 include the single Greek word that is translated variously as keystone, capstone, and cornerstone, the origin of the capstone to the pyramid in the Great Seal of the United States on the dollar bill. The style and significance of the capstone to the pyramid on the dollar bill do not reflect Biblical usage and instead suggest extra-Biblical mysticism, not unlike Carl Jung’s incorporation of alchemy into the Biblical stone. In short, the three articles above form a unified philosophic position, the reality of the stone legend.
Hello! I have a fat activist blog post called Fat Rights are Reproductive Rights because the systematic discrimination against fat people is (should be) a feminist issue. Thanks!
