Friday Cat Blogging

You might have noticed a dearth of Friday Cat Blogging around here since the pet police turned up. Well, I’m afraid that Sugarplum and Zuzu are now off the blog since I’m not going to expose myself to the sanctimoniousness of the self-appointed pet police again. I may or may not even have them anymore, but I will neither confirm nor deny that. They may have been made into a casserole.

They’re quite tasty, topped with those Durkee onions.

However, I feel like the blog lacks a certain je ne sais quois without cat pictures. So, I’m putting the call out for reader cats. If you have a picture of your cat you’d like to have featured, send it to my attention at feministe (at) gmail dot com.

And, yes, I could do Friday Dog Blogging. Unfortunately, she’s damn hard to take pictures of.

  1. If it makes you feel better, I confess to not being absolutely sure where my cat’s ashes are. We might have misplaced them. They’re probably on a desk somewhere, or in a cupboard.

Honestly, it’d be just like her to turn up somewhere least pleasant.

  2. Wow, I missed the whole pet police saga. How silly. I have no cats but roughly 30,000 pictures of an insane boston terrier if that suits your fancy.

  3. I’ve submitted a picture of one of my cats, Edgar. In the spirit of open discourse, let it be published!

  4. YES Lauren send yours in I wanna see Pablo again!

Also Doug. But Pablo’s so completely beautiful. It’s like he’s Jack Sparrow and Doug is Will Turner, in terms of attractiveness.

I have three cats, but no digital camera. If this becomes a recurring trend, however, I may eventually get some in. After I find a job, a digital camera will be I think second on the big-purchase agenda, after the $150 Jack-Sparrow-style boots.

Yikes, two Pirates of the Caribbean references in one post. (Note to self: Kyra darling, don’t post the day after seeing Dead Man’s Chest, ’cause you won’t be coherent.)

  5. Well, I just sent one in too of Sir Isaac Mewton.

And Lauren, let me second the request for some of your cat pics. Of course I miss Pablo and Doug, but most of all, I miss Merle and his double chins!

  6. Zuzu, I missed the original controversy – Im sorry you had to go through that at the worst time – Im sorry you had to leave your cats.

I hope you ignore the Pet Police and after a while post pics again.

  7. Speaking of the infamous “pet police,” I think you might find this blog interesting:

    http://whatikilledtoday.blogspot.com/

It’s the diary of a woman who has to make the call to euthanize animals, both wild and not wild, when they cannot be saved.

It’s a sobering work, and I really feel for her, especially after we had to put our Doberman down a few years ago. The poor thing was old, blind, and in chronic, unabating pain. My mother went to confession after that one (she’s Russian Orthodox).

Pet heartbreak is a special kind of heartbreak, because they can’t tell you how they feel, but in your heart of hearts, you know how awful it all is.

  8. Zuzu, I’m on my laptop right now, but I’ll send you some this weekend. I have six cats, so we should be able to find some cute pictures for you!

  9. We have three cats and a gigantic dog, so maybe when I’m home I can come up with something for you.
