Well shit it is not surprising that NOL sounds like Iraq. Same incompetent spendthrifts in charge in both places.
What it boils down to is poor decision-making and failure to do what must be done in order to take care of the problems. This is why I’m against national healthcare. It’s not that it’s a “bad” idea, it’s just that I don’t think the federal government could ever manage it; they’d find a way to fuck it up.
People down there seemed to be in a holding pattern as well because so little had been accomplished, and now hurricane season is rolling around again. Why rebuild if there’s no infrastructure, and why move back in if there’s no plan in place to evacuate you, or if you’ll just lose everything again?
Even if NO pulls through all right, what’s it going to take to make people realise that the US lost a gorram city?! And if it does get swamped again, will that be enough to convince people this is a huge fucking disaster?!
Daaamn. We need a new President. How far would what we’re spending in Iraq go to towards rebuilding the city? (Not to mention proper levees.)
