Shameless Self-Promotion Sunday

Promote yourself.

Netiquette reminders:

  • Want to recommend someone else’s writing instead? Try the weekly signal-boosting thread.
  • we expect Content Notes as a courtesy to our readers for problematic content in linked posts and/or their comment threads (a habit of posting only triggering/disparaging links may annoy the Giraffe (you really don’t want to annoy the Giraffe))
  • extended discussion of self-promotion links on this thread is counter-productive for the intended signal-boosting –  the idea is for the promoted sites to get more traffic.  If it’s a side-discussion that would be off-topic/unwelcome/distressing on the other site, take it to #spillover after leaving a note on this thread redirecting others there.

  1. Last week at Bitch Flicks, we ran a series of posts in celebration of “The Great Actresses.” We have posts on Louise Brooks, Meryl Streep, Pre-Code anti-heroes, forgotten Black actresses, Katharine Hepburn, Pam Grier, and more.

Here is a link to the roundup of all of the posts!

  2. You’re not helping: A few stories this week had me asking, “how do people think this possible helps their cause?” On RAINN and rape culture, Obama and the Iraq war, and law schools policing female lawyers’ clothing.

It pays to have more women on the Supreme Court: Well after Justice Sotomayor was mocked for her comments on the perspective of a “wise Latina,” the Hobby Lobby case shows how important it is to have women on the Supreme Court.

  3. I posted my band’s new song and explained the feminist lyrics. I also talked about Lilly Allen’s anti-feminism and some other stuff 🙂

  4. My friend and I started a feminist/humanist/progressive Facebook group called Humanist Perspective.

We post pretty much anything that catches our attention, and we also do theme days, which is pretty fun.

And of course, anyone who joins is more than welcome to shamelessly promote their own blogs. : D

  5. I wrote about:

Et tu, Girls Write Now? On finding out that an organization I really like is looking for unpaid “interns” to do full-time entry-level work, and the differences between such exploitative “internships” and the kind that are very-part time and actually benefit the interns.

We deserve better: on lack of opportunities in the fields the world needs the most, and economic violence.

  6. There seems to be a deluge of blatant commercial spam coming into being submitted to this thread, so I’m putting all comments into moderation in case one sneaks through the automod. Please have patience, we’ll approve all posts that meet the guidelines ASAP.
