Where am I and why am I looking at a platter of sea urchin guts?

You know how yesterday night I was so exhausted I almost killed myself and several other people?

Yeah, well, guess who’s watching Iron Chef.

See y’all tomorrow.

Hey, speaking of the late and much-lamented Octavia Butler, has anyone else read Wild Seed? I’d love to talk about it–gender, slavery, dependency, bodily integrity, identity–but I don’t know if I can do it justice in a blog post. And I’m not sure I can even get at the character of Doro.

  1. I’m awake, too. I was startled from sleep by my housemate’s cat getting sick on my bed. I’m waiting for my comforter to finish drying. *sigh*

  2. My four year old is a big Iron Chef fan, and often we will tape it so he can view it during the day. On his fourth birthday, we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and watched the handlers feed squid to all the sharks, fish, otters, etc. Before heading home, we went to a local seafood restaurant, and when the server asked him what he wanted to eat, he told her “I don’t want fish and chips – I want *squid* and chips.”

    He loved every bite.

He may have blond hair and blue eyes, but he’s got the soul of Sakai and Chen.

  3. I loves me some Iron Chef.

And Iron Chef America is actually pretty good, at least when I don’t have to watch Bobby Flay.

  4. I have read the Wild Seed series years ago, and don’t remember all the details, but suffice it to say, I think Wild Seed is the best vampire story of all time.

I’ll pass on sea urchin guts.

  5. MMmmmm, sea urchin guts. They taste like the Monterey coast!

Yeah, Wild Seed, Mind of My Mind, that whole Patternist/Clayark set explores some interesting stuff, not the least of which is that undefinable intersection of biology and psychology and intellect and politics. And hoo-eee, you want family values…!

    Damn.
