Sunday morning at the park with my tree-climbing, treat-whoring dog.

The tree-climbing:

And the treat-whoring:

  1. She’s a corgi mix — I think Cardigan (Cardigans have tails, Pembrokes have the Queen of England). I’m not sure where she gets the curly tail — maybe Shiba Inu, maybe Chihuahua. I lean toward Chihuahua because her fur is so fine and seal-fur-like, and both corgis and Shibas have dense, rough fur.

I admit to being completely besotted with my dog. One day I’ll get some video of the way she greets me at the door — she wiggles all over, then gets on her hind legs and hops as she wiggles. There’s really no better way to be greeted at the end of the day.

  2. Awwwww. How adorable!

It’s amazing how many random mixes of dog end up seeming like the happy product of hundreds of years of husbandry, isn’t it? Our dog is, like, part beagle and part retriever, except smaller so probably something else in there somewhere, and he’s the cutest thing ever.

  3. This is completely offtopic; feel free to delete it if you want. I can’t see the links at all – I have to roll my mouse over the text in order to find it. I’m not sure if this affects everyone, or if it’s simply due to the fact that I am colorweak, but it is a major factor in the ease of use of your blog, from my point of view. And yes, I see the irony in complaining about a primarily male issue on a feminist blog. But while 1/8-1/12 men are colorblind to some degree, so are .5% of women!

  4. You live in NYC and have a dog too?! What gives? No fair! I live in some piss-ant new england milltown and my landord say I can’t have one anymore! I’m so jealous!

  5. She’s not treat-whoring. She’s enterprising and productive, and the treats are merely tribute for her performance art.

    Or perhaps “treat-performance-worker.”

But I think “treat-whoring is a bit more pejorative than is necessary.

  6. kate, I own my apartment, which makes things a lot easier vis-a-vis dog ownership. But some buildings don’t allow new dogs, or any at all.

Jon, you know very well she’s whoring. In fact, I believe I’ve heard you use that term yourself.

(Jon is the owner of the dog behind Junebug and babysits for her quite frequently.)
