  1. I loved the original AP trilogy and was excited to see this, but this is very disappointing.

  2. How are the previous movies any better? One commenter notes that the author sounds like they are just trying to justify something they liked in their youth but no longer agree with. I think that is spot on.

  3. In the end it just sounds like a bit of fun IMO. You can never expect these things to be good in the feminism sense because then they just end up being unrealistic. The sexual double standard is a thing that is very big these days, it’s even like more than it was before. So it’s realistic to have a movie that depicts some guys indulging in it. What can you expect?

  4. Matt, I disagree with your assessment that the AMERICAN PIE series is something I liked in my youth, but no longer agree with. If you read the article, you’ll notice that I referenced AMERICAN PIE’s more progressive portrayal of women’s pleasure, re: cunnilingus. I also mentioned that the change in writer/directors for AMERICAN REUNION really changed the tone and perspective of the series. It felt like the story was given over to Stifler.

The change took away from a generally good-natured (albeit problematic in spots) AMERICAN PIE to an entirely sexist, rape-joking, painfully un-funny AMERICAN REUNION.

  5. Yeah, the original American Pie was so good-natured. Like when a bunch of dudes spy on a girl as she masturbates. Nothing at all rapey about that.
