Indiana Weather

We are experiencing a rather unusual burst of warm air. Today, on January 2, we have a temperature of 60 degrees. The windows are open and Ethan and I are going on a bike ride despite the tornado watch and impending rain.

I hope we get a good thunderstorm tonight.

  1. I had no idea even Hoosierland was getting warm weather. The endless summer in Houston promises 70s as far as the long-term forecast dares to reach. When I got off the plane last Friday from Christmas vacation in the snowy and icy mountains of SW Virginia, the illuminated message signs on the Houston freeways warned of the statewide burn ban. But we had an excellent bird count yesterday on the Katy Prairie WNW of Houston, and it was wonderful walking around outdoors in the breezy mid-70s, so I have no complaints.

  2. A week ago we had six inches of snow on the ground. Hoosier weather is noted for its swings, in part because central and northern Indiana is plainsland (flat, flat, flat), and in part because of the oddities of Lake Michigan.

  3. 60 is unusual? Around here, you can flip a coin and get either 20s or 80s on any given winter day. Occasionally, you get both on the same day.

  4. yeah, we had a big thunderstorm roll through chicago yesterday around 11:00 am. it’s strange to be sitting in your living room, with your christmas tree still up, and have lightning and thunder passing overhead!

no tornado watches, though. thank god. i’m from new england, and this summer the first tornado watch for this area almost made me pee myself from fright. i had to drink some whiskey at 3:00 in the afternoon to calm myself down.

    wow, that’s embarassing. but true.
