Shameless Self-Promotion Sunday

Post a short description of something you’ve written this week, along with a link. Make it specific — don’t just link your whole blog.

  1. Hating Gym, Menarche Edition — I guest blogged at Fit and Feminist regarding menarche, undiagnosed endometriosis, and the PE teacher from hell.

Unwisely: Part 5 [TW relationship abuse and self harm] — What I think is the last story segment that details the “good” part of the relationship.

Obese Health Happens [TW fat hate] — Responding to an emailer’s assertion that “it’s not honest to say that obesity is healthy.”

Why I’m Frustrated by Jennifer Hudson’s Weight Loss [TW dieting, weight loss talk] — Hint: It’s not about her actual weight loss at all.

Also, Core Anatomy: Pelvic Floor [shows medical drawings of the pelvic floor] — Learning what those muscles are and how they function in the core.

  2. In lectionary blogging, I considered what was really so foolish about the five “foolish virgins” of this week’s gospel, and note the tradition of interpreting some feminine scriptural imagery as referring to Jesus.

  3. At World O’ Crap we visit with Warner Todd Huston, the Wilfred Brimley of wingnuts, who is appalled that atheists in California lied about Thomas Jefferson being a Deist. On a BILLBOARD! Which incidentally reminds Warner that all atheists everywhere lie about some of the Founders being Deists, which he hates, because NONE of them were. Except for the ones who actually were, except they actually weren’t, because…no tag backs! Fill It To The Rim…With Brimley!

  4. Hi everyone! I have written a post, Pulling all the Cards, about the charges of sexual harassment against Herman Cain, and the special dilemma that Cain is simultaneously an African American man, ultraconservtive and seemingly one of the most promising GOP presidential candidates.

  5. As its domestic violence awareness month I’ve started writing a short series about my personal experiences with domestic abuse. I want to try to raise awareness about how abuse can be more complicated than many think it is and also to talk about why I, personally, found it so hard to escape. It’s not finished yet, but the first two are up if you fancy a look;

    Post One
    Post Two

Warning: These posts will have abuse triggers in them.

  6. I wrote a book review on Sarah Waters new book.

    I’ve also written on morality.

…on my ontological arguments for the non-existence of god.

I’ve written a response to Charlotte Allen’s terrible piece on feminism, SlutWalk and sexy Halloween costumes.

  7. As a long time lurker, I disagree with a fair amount that is posted on this blog, but as a wordslut / ideajunkie, I love to challenge myself with a wide variety of viewpoints, and I absolutely love all the delicious links on Self Promotion Sundays. Thank you.

  8. I created a blog awhile ago to have a personal, anonymous space to talk about religion, my childhood, depression, and other things. This week I wrote a few posts.

How I became a feminist: A simplified version of the path leading to my radical shift in political beliefs.

I wrote a post about the path I took from being a “blind faith” Christian, to finally admitting I don’t believe anymore…and it wasn’t an easy path.
I also wrote my reaction to the video posted at Pandagon.net (also posted here at feministe) of the judge beating his daughter, and how it reminded me of my upbringing.
