This week I considered why people feel compelled to exaggerate the number of hours they work in eight days a week.
Looking for great music, but short of time? Check out Four Short Records I Love Extremely Much. Sometimes I have Quiet Days, and I cannot figure out why this confuses people.

Another sex-positivity piece, this time about BDSM, and what it means to me. I link to Clarisse’s blog, because I think she’s amazing and we could all learn a lot from her. http://procnetheswallow.wordpress.com/2011/11/07/masochist-courtesans-count-me-in/
I blogged about race and racism in classic feminist science fiction. An Open Letter to White People Who Like to Touch My Hair. Also, check out the latest edition of the Down Under Feminists Carnival, collecting the best of feminist blogging from around New Zealand and Australia.
This week I riffed off an old Dorothy Allison quote on writing and a stealthily feminist Queen Latifah song, plus talked a little about women’s aggression and jealousy.
I have a big one this week. A friend translated my FREE ebook on job-hunting It’s Not You, It’s Your Strategy: The HIAPy Guide to Finding Work in a Tough job Market into Spanish. English version here

Also, Core Anatomy: Pelvic Floor [shows medical drawings of the pelvic floor] — Learning what those muscles are and how they function in the core.
This week I wrote about how the “purity culture” – purity balls, purity rings, and the worship of virginity – can lead to sexual dysfunction: The Purity Culture and Sexual Dysfunction
In lectionary blogging, I considered what was really so foolish about the five “foolish virgins” of this week’s gospel, and note the tradition of interpreting some feminine scriptural imagery as referring to Jesus.
I wrote a post about whether caring too much about our causes can actually backfire and one about gendered rhetorics in mom and dad bloggers.
I video interviewed Black dub poet d’bi.young anitafrika about her 15 month global tour and taped her perform a short piece called “WARNING!” Check it: http://blackcoffeepoet.com/2011/11/04/dbi-young-anitafrika-talks-performs-the-sankofa-trilogy/

Here is a post on the incompatibility of feminism and chivalry. Here is another on trying to fit everyone into the movement. Feedback is more than welcome, thanks!
This week I wrote a review of the book “The End of Loser Liberalism: Making Markets Progressive” by Dean Baker of the Center for Economic and Policy Research. It lays out some ideas on economic reform to address economic inequality and unemployment. I thought it was a cool book to review because it is written in pretty accessible language for non-economists and the book is available as a free download.
Late to the convo, but this is still bugging me. On marriage: picking apart the “you’re-too-picky” meme.
This week on NSWATM… I post about Gaddafi’s rape. http://noseriouslywhatabouttehmenz.wordpress.com/2011/11/02/gaddafi-raped-before-execution/ I talk about Amber Cole and the missing conversation about the boys. http://noseriouslywhatabouttehmenz.wordpress.com/2011/11/03/amber-cole-and-the-misandry-of-low-expectations/ Noah Brand compares the ideal and the real in attraction. http://noseriouslywhatabouttehmenz.wordpress.com/2011/10/31/ideal-vs-real-in-attraction/
This week I analyzed the media’s categorically negative depiction of childbirth, wrote a short rant on the whole “Don’t worry! She isn’t a feminist!” thing and, inspired by the ridiculous fact that 50% of Americans still think women should be legally required to change their last name, I wrote about what I think I might do with my last name if and when i get married. I’d love to know, what are you going to do with yours, and why?
Why I gave up horror novels & other gruesome stuff: http://humaneconnectionblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/why-i-gave-up-horror-novels-other.html Buy the book? Making book choices that do more good & less harm: http://humaneconnectionblog.blogspot.com/2011/11/buy-book-making-book-choices-that-do.html
At World O’ Crap we visit with Warner Todd Huston, the Wilfred Brimley of wingnuts, who is appalled that atheists in California lied about Thomas Jefferson being a Deist. On a BILLBOARD! Which incidentally reminds Warner that all atheists everywhere lie about some of the Founders being Deists, which he hates, because NONE of them were. Except for the ones who actually were, except they actually weren’t, because…no tag backs! Fill It To The Rim…With Brimley!
I wrote a post on Kara Walker, a black woman artist who uses cut-paper silhouettes to comment on issues regarding race, gender, and sexuality. Is her work shocking just to shock? Or is it for a deeper purpose? And in the spirit of true self-promotion, I put up two of my drawings. Take a look, leave a critique, I appreciate any response.
Not Your Mama’s Gamer was busy this week. 2 new posts, one new podcast, and 2 contests to win a copy of Skyrim or a t-shirt! How Are Video Games Like Breakfast Cereal? (on games and collectibles) Episode 22 already! Time Capsule: Games of the Apocalypse Casual Games and Literacy

Hi everyone! I have written a post, Pulling all the Cards, about the charges of sexual harassment against Herman Cain, and the special dilemma that Cain is simultaneously an African American man, ultraconservtive and seemingly one of the most promising GOP presidential candidates.
As its domestic violence awareness month I’ve started writing a short series about my personal experiences with domestic abuse. I want to try to raise awareness about how abuse can be more complicated than many think it is and also to talk about why I, personally, found it so hard to escape. It’s not finished yet, but the first two are up if you fancy a look; Post One Post Two Warning: These posts will have abuse triggers in them.
Over at RedioSilence, I started a new series this week documenting my IUD experience as it happens, this first post is about how I prepared for the IUD insertion that will be happening later today. Wish me luck!
Women, power, abuse, Maggie Thatcher, my sister’s boss… and other things. AKA why I have not been writing much recently.

A short homage to funny women, and an eff-you to Christopher Hitchens, with special shout-outs to Katha Pollitt and the folks from Feministe: “This one’s for you, Hitch.” And a brief commentary on the appointment of Virginia Rometty as CEO of IBM and the role of her husband,Mark Rometty. Conclusion: Virginian Rometty has an awesome wife. Thank you for reading! -Anna
Argh, sorry, typo in the post above. I meant “Virginia Rometty” has an awesome wife. Since that’s her name. Not “Virginian.” -A
As a long time lurker, I disagree with a fair amount that is posted on this blog, but as a wordslut / ideajunkie, I love to challenge myself with a wide variety of viewpoints, and I absolutely love all the delicious links on Self Promotion Sundays. Thank you.
I created a blog awhile ago to have a personal, anonymous space to talk about religion, my childhood, depression, and other things. This week I wrote a few posts. How I became a feminist: A simplified version of the path leading to my radical shift in political beliefs. I wrote a post about the path I took from being a “blind faith” Christian, to finally admitting I don’t believe anymore…and it wasn’t an easy path. I also wrote my reaction to the video posted at Pandagon.net (also posted here at feministe) of the judge beating his daughter, and how it reminded me of my upbringing.
I wrote a post in which I listed off ten reasons why the Lingerie Football League sucks. Because seriously, the uniforms are the least of the league’s problems.
I write a travel blog, and this week I was thinking a lot about the objects we bring home from our travels. I’d love to see what some of you all have collected! http://theepicadventurer.blogspot.com/2011/11/things-we-bring-home.html
