Goodness and Weirdness

Goodness
Garbage Soup + Crusty Bread + Asiago Cheese = Wintery Goodness

Even Ethan agrees, and this is a kid that will eat anything except stinky cheese.

Weirdness
Just a moment ago, Doug went from sitting contentedly on my lap to emitting a bizarre yowl, a weird, shaky meow strange enough to bring Pablo running into the office to see what was going on. Then, Doug hissed at me for the first time ever before jumping down, shaking himself off, and looking generally irritated. It sounded as though he was in pain. I’m a tad worried.

I need to get a job with benefits ASAP so I can get all four of us into a doctor for our regular checkups. The kitties are in dire need of a vet visit and E and I could use a trip to the dentist and the doctor. The to-do list keeps growing.

  1. Eeee, yeah, I know just that cat routine. Can be something temporary, of course, like indigestion, but watch out for more unusual behavior. Wow, I hadn’t realized how strongly imbedded in me is the memory of the out-of-nowhere yowl-jump-hiss-shakeoff combo.

  2. He might have had a furball. Is he okay now? My cats make a weird meow right before they barf all over the floor.

Last week, when Oreo was sitting on my lap, she suddenly barfed all over my leg. The Count laughed his head off. I know my cat loves me when she feels free enough to barf on me.

  3. Doug may have felt a static shock. Happens to mine all the time up here in New England (cold air is dry air is staticy air). My Sweetpea won’t even sit in my lap in the winter, and this is a lap kitty we are talking about!

  4. The only thing I can thinkof is when my cat gets urinary tract infections. But for that case the pain’s pretty constant, it seems; he yowls, growls, and grumbles throughout the day. This happens whenever he finds something to eat that’s not part of his prescribed diet.
