NYU’s GOP Club Kids

The NYU College Republicans sound just as… interesting… as they were when I was in college. Except now the club is run by the daughter of a billionaire, who I’m sure believes entirely in people pulling themselves up by their bootstraps and being self-sufficient. She would also like to “save America.” The article also notes that she’s 20, but “was off to Josie Woods Pub, a local chicken-wings and waffle-fries joint, to meet up with other young Republicans who’d attended the meeting.” Aren’t you supposed to be 21 in order to get into bars? Weird.

  1. I don’t know about now, but when I was at NYU, Josie Woods was a live music venue as well as a bar that lets in kids 18+. If you aren’t 21 you get a hand stamp. It was big Freshman year, but then we realized New York has much cooler places…

I called them, and they said you have to be 21 to enter.

  3. Related – in the Midwest from which I hail, a pub is what I suspect would be called a ‘bar & grill’ – my mom loved the chicken salad and I loved the grilled cheese, but it’s not a place that people *here* would really ever dream of taking a minor after 10pm. Just my two cents.

  4. Trying to figure out the thrust here. Her dad makes too much money, she is idealistic (unusual for 20) and she eats pub food. Oh, and she has different political views (including being socially liberal, per the linked article) than most here. Yeah, totally deserving of scorn…

  5. What was with all the clothing commentary in that article? I felt like I was reading a fashion magazine or something.
