Any Project Runway Fans Out There?!

Is anybody else totally excited for the Project Runway finale tonight?!

I haven’t watched a full season in a really long time and, I admit, I didn’t watch this season in full either. But I started watching the episodes a few weeks back (thanks, Lifetime on demand!), and this cast of characters got me hooked again.

I have to admit that a small part of the appeal is the fact that I love Emilio Sosa! He’s a great designer, I find his cockiness amusing, and he’s Dominican! Which is incredibly awesome because, hello, Dominicans rock! (Completely biased there, but whatevs…)

I also really like Seth Aaron. His designs are great and I really enjoyed seeing him interact with his family. Anybody who owns a trampoline wins instant cool points.

I’d really like to see one of these guys win tonight. I’m not the biggest fan of Mila, mostly because I like color and she likes black and white, and also because some of the big, drapey stuff leaves me feeling bored. Don’t get me wrong, some of her pieces have knocked it out of the park, but others, meh.

Does anybody out there still watch Project Runway? I know that’s, like, so 5 years ago but there must be somebody out there who shares in my excitement… right?!

WARNING: There are now spoilers in the comments! SPOILERS IN COMMENTS!

  1. I’m excited to see the finale, but I’m disappointed in the final three. I haven’t liked Mila from the beginning and I loved Jay, so I guess I’m just bitter.

I used to really like Emilio. But then he got very cocky and the judges began praising him like crazy for work that was really just ok. I’m curious to see what his final collection will look like.

  2. Seth Aaron! I think his clothes are unique but still wearable, and his jackets are super-gorgeous and flattering. Then again, I love jackets, so there’s that. I like his personality, too; he seems to have a lot of positive energy and not to let things get under his skin too much.

  3. I agree about Jay. I really liked the looks he showed last week, except for that silver shirt thing.

I think the funny thing about Emilio’s cockiness is that then he still reflects and ends up realizing what advice is right and what he can ignore. I’m thinking particularly about the sosa print dress and the dress from the circus challenge.

  4. I’m excited!! Emilio’s clothes seem, to me, the most wearable, but, of course, that’s just MY opinion. I’m a color person, too, so Mila’s out. I’m happy that she made it this far, though, because there are a lot of people out there who like black/white only, and she’s worked toward this goal a LONG time. Seth Aaron rocks. He’s not my style, but I think he could kick some serious ass on the runway. I don’t really care who wins; I’m just excited to see what they’ve done!! Time to pour a glass of wine.. =)

  5. I do, I do!

Confession: I always want a woman to win (usually the woman, because they never tend to make it that far). This time, though, I actually like all three. Seth Aaron is a little Hot Topic for me, but I love his jackets. Mila fashion trends older, but when she figures out how to make her outfits look youthful her aesthetic rocks. And Emilio basically hasn’t done anything wrong except for the bikini made of pink string, but we’ll ignore that.

Sally, if you’re not careful we’re going to end up doing a bunch of TV Roundtables.

  6. I am trembly with anticipation! Team Seth Aaron here.
All I can say is WTF is Faith Hill doing as a judge? Wrong, just wrong.

  7. I had almost forgotten about the pink-string bikini. That really should have gotten him eliminated. The model was almost naked. He’s done lots of great work before and since, but that was horrible. Way worse that the foil Hershey Kiss dress that got Jesse eliminated.

I don’t hate anyone this season and I don’t love anyone either. I guess Seth Aaron would be my choice.

  8. Seth Aaron won me over during the episode where Maya left the show; the fact that Emilio chose to gloat about that and Seth Aaron did not may have influenced my decision juuuuust a little. 😛 Mila’s a little too ’60s-throwback for me, though.

  9. One of the models that was eliminated a few shows ago was from my hometown & graduated with my brother, so that was sad to learn she wouldn’t be on the finale… BUT BUT BUT c’mon Seth Aaron! I’ve adored his work since the first episode, and I have to completely agree with annaham re: his response to Maya’s departure- it was heartwarming & reinforcing in my adoration 😉

  10. How many hours should go by before we can start including spoilers in the comments thread? =)

Without naming names I’ll say that I’m happy with the results. The winner definitely had the best show, IMO, with some of my favorite pieces of the night.

  11. The day after: Seth Aaron had some knockout outfits (especially that coat on the next to last person) but I didn’t like his last outfit (the smashed grape). The man is a clothes-making machine! (24 outfits?!) Emilio (my early season favorite along with Mila) was too conservative. One stunning gown at the end preceded by endless jersey outfits you’d see hanging on a rack any fall. Not creative enough and, despite the color, boooring. (but I liked the light blue coat… purdy) Mila’s… much of it was ugly. Don’t like her juxtapositions of multiple patterns. They should have no-all-black stipulation just to watch designer’s heads explode. I was really feeling bad Maya dropped out, I think she was quite talented.

  12. Seth Aaron won with a show he said was inspired by “1940s German military.” I guess Project Runway loves Nazis? I’m a bit judgmental because I don’t find him particularly unique, but still…

Also, I loved Jay until tonight when he told a model she had fat legs. Come on, now.

  13. Jay’s behavior during the show always rubbed me the wrong way and I couldn’t figure out why. I just chalked it up to the stress of the show. But tonight’s comment to that adorable Irish model made me realize he’s just a real a–hole.

  14. Okay, well since everyone else started naming names, I’ll go ahead with my comments =)

Seth Aaron – I really wish people would stop saying he was inspired by the Nazis. Yes, he specifically said German and Russian military uniforms from the 40s, and yes, Nazis wore military uniforms in the 40s, but I would venture to guess that he simply means the lines and structure of uniforms in Europe in general during that time and not specifically Nazis.

That out of the way, aside from that ugly ass purple dress, I really liked his collection. The black and white dress was my favorite of the night, with the red dress as a close second. I think he really mixed it up for the finale.

Emilio – Damn it, I was pulling for him, but his collection was not exciting. The colors were cool, the print was nice, but it wasn’t particularly original and I expected something else from him. I must say, though, that teal jacket – BLEW MY MIND! WHERE DO I BUY IT?!

Mila – I was bored watching her clothes. The only color she had was purple which, admittedly, is my favorite color. So basically every purple piece got some interest from me, but other than that, I was just bored.

Jay – That was definitely an asshole comment. I couldn’t believe he said that and I’m glad he didn’t win.

  15. I love it and me and my friends get together every week (or did until it is now over) and watch. I at first found Seth Aaron a bit annoying but then he grew on me, like a fungus really and towards the end of the season was routing for him to win it. I had the opposite with Emilio, liked him at the start but then he got more and more douchey. Never was too enamored with Mila, too much color blocking for my taste. Also I’d totally wear a lot of the stuff Seth Aaron made over the course of the show. That jacket he made in A Little Bit of Fashion was fantastic!

As for the 1940’s German (he also said Russian but it looked more German inspired to me) military inspiration with Seth Aaron, c’mon sure they were Nazis but they had wicked good fashion, makes sense when you have Hugo Boss making your uniforms :p

And yeah Jay – asshole. He was probably trying to come off as catty and bitchy but failed hard. And really Anthony had the niche quite filled. Oh Anthony 😀

  16. Hey, does anybody know the song that was played during Seth Aaron’s presentation of his collection? Great soundtrack overall IMHO.

  17. Has anyone discovered who the song was by whilst Seth Aaron’s line went down the runway? It is a must-have sound!
