Well, I did make some great brownies.

CNN contributor Erick Erickson is right — watching Tim Tebow tackle his mom during a Super Bowl commercial last night really inspired me to give up the whole thinking-thoughts thing and get back in the kitchen. It’s a shame I’m too ugly to get a date, because now I have all of this food and no one to give it to. How many brownies do you think 14 cats can eat?

Alright… I know it’s neither fair nor helpful to say that, but I am getting so freaking annoyed by men like Rush Limbaugh and this Erick Erickson (seriously?!)-clown telling feminists (or women they perceive to be feminists, i.e. probably any woman speaking without their permission… bad, bad talking feminazi) to be ugly. Really?! First of all, what’s with the old-school-1950s-oh-so-boring-yawn-sexism? And secondly, and, yes, I apologise for saying that before saying it (but I can’t help myself): Do they really believe they’re even remotely attractive (applying their way of defining beauty)? Obviously, if I had even a small chance of dating one of these amazing men, I would not be a feminazi and desperately starving for masculine attention anymroe. Obviously. Grrr.

  3. They’re not attractive but it has nothing to do with the physical (or, if it does, I suppose it’s a matter of preference that I don’t feel I can judge as an age-inappropriate individual). Have you ever seen someone say, “STUPID GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO WANT EQUAL RIGHTS OMFG OVERREACTION THAT THEY HAD OVERREACTING IS ONLY OKAY WHEN I DO IT” and been like, there’s a person I want to fuck?

    They’re hideous. Be proud of it. Bigotry is always ugly.

  6. i’m not conventionally attractive. erickson und limbaugh would call me a fat, ugly feminazi. so… i get pissed off when people judge other people’s looks – and, many times, that happens by middle-aged, antifeminist men judging women. instead of approaching their arguments, they approach the people (men and women, actually) by calling them names. it’s a (most stereotypical) fact in my experience. obviously, that angers me.
    and yes, @prettyamiable, i agree with what you said :).

  7. Ugh, don’t say you aren’t pretty – conventionally or otherwise. I think beauty is best exemplified in someone’s confidence and happiness with themself. I have a ridiculously huge nose and these hips that do this thing and random stretch marks on the back of only one thigh and one eye (and breast) is noticeably bigger than the other. I think I’m gorgeous, which is super lucky since I get to live with myself everyday for the rest of my life. We get to decide together what the conventions are, not Limbaugh or any one individual. I think you’re all beautiful for taking a stand for what you believe in (which, PS, has been reiterated back to me by most potential dating partners even after they find out I’m the f-word).

  8. Becky, I tend to think that it isn’t so primarily about judging people by their looks, although UNQUESTIONABLY it is that, too, but about making women and girls afraid of feminism. The goal here really seems to me to ingrain into us the idea that you must choose between attractiveness to men and self-respect.

  10. You know, I thought with the first one, he might have been being sarcastic. Then I saw the second one. It almost makes me wish I hadn’t cooked a cake last night. Then I realize that he’s an asshole, why should I care if *this* ugly feminist loves to cook and that he’d be happy?

  17. i don’t understand why people must disagree in such a disrespectful way. i agree that the ad was not worth all of the uproar that it received but… this is simply harsh and uncalled for.

    Silence, I’ve seen you commenting about this ad in every thread so far. And you keep telling us to calm down and be civil and be quiet. I think that women, and feminists, are told that often enough that we don’t really appreciate hearing it from you on a feminist website.

    Also, are you honestly chastising us in this space? Did you see what this post is about?

  18. To be fair, I think silencewillnotprotectyou’s comment was aimed at Erickson’s tweets. As in, “I agree the Tebow ad wasn’t a big deal, but Erickson went over the line and was very disrespectful and harsh.”
