Protecting the Institution of Marriage

amd_hiram_monserrate

I’ve made my views on Ruben Diaz fairly clear. One jackass I’ve focused less on is Hiram Monserrate, a New York state senator who was one of eight Democrats to vote “no” on the marriage equality bill that failed today. Mr. Monserrate was too cowardly to speak on the senate floor about marriage equality, and instead chose to cast his “no” vote without explanation. So while Mr. Monserrate is projecting his “moral values” onto the rest of us, it’s worth pointing out that those morals include slashing his girlfriend’s face with a broken beer bottle, which required 20 to 40 stitches to close. That was before he violently dragged her, while she was bleeding, through the lobby of their building to take her to the ER. What a guy. (Did you catch that it’s their building? That is, they live together. Unmarried. I think my grandma calls that “in sin.” Just sayin).

Because he was only found guilty of misdemeanor assault, he was able to keep his senate seat. Because he was able to keep his senate seat, he was able to vote against marriage equality today.

You can call Mr. Monserrate’s district office at (718) 205-3881, and his Albany office at (518) 455-2529. Tell him that your moral values embrace equality and deplore violence.

And when it’s re-election time, throw a few dollars toward Jose Peralta. I know I will.

  1. Monserrate’s challenger already exists; his name is Assemblyman Jose Peralta.

We should focus on drafting a challenger to Joe Addabbo (who raised tons of gay-rights cash and still voted no).

  2. If the women on New York drag him through the building out to the street, I’ll try to get there by sunday to give him a good kick.

I mean, there are no words. Screw that he voted against marriage equality, how is someone who did that – misdemeanor assault – WHILE IN OFFICE is STILL IN OFFICE?

    Fuck. fuck. fuck.

And I sold an ounce of weed, and lost my right to vote for 3 years thereafter. Justice.

    KeyRiced!!!!!

  3. MISDEMEANOR ASSAULT! I don’t know of any reason I could ever vote no on marriage equality. But I try not to judge every person who would as homophobic and disgusting. But this guy has multiple strikes on him. What a tool! If I lived in NY I would be all over supporting whomever can defeat him.

  4. Misdemeanor assualt? Breaking a beer bottle over someone’s face and then dragging them is a midemeanor? WTF?

And yeah, how the fuck is he still in office?

  5. It’s so disheartening to live in Queens and watch this sorry excuse for a man still sit in office. I want him OUT at the first opportunity, and I will certainly be supporting Assemblyman Jose Peralta come primary time. He actually has spoken out many times on his support for same sex marriage and I look forward to his campaign.

We just blogged about what a hypocritical ass Mr. Monserrate is here: http://girlhate.com/2009/12/03/we-loathe-you-hypocritical-ny-senators-diaz-monserrate/
