Help Me Decide: What Is Cuter?

This is a matter of national importance. What is more adorable? The pygmy jerboa:

OR

This baby:

Help. I am overwhelmed with teh cute.

  1. My vote goes to the jerboa, because I am pretty much convinced it is actually from another planet.

  2. Baby, all the way. I am convincing that should you find a jerboa in your house, you’d freak out. The laughing baby passes that test. Just get that baby some paper, and let him tear it up.

  3. Being a mom, I think I’m biased toward the baby clip. The gerboa is cute in a creepy way. The baby made me laugh til I cried. Thanks for sharing!

  4. I agree with Suzanne M that the jerboa is an alien. BUT IT’S THE CUTEST ALIEN EVER.

The baby is adorable too; I miss the days where ripping a magazine apart could make me that happy.

  5. Mikey–

I have to disagree. i’d rather have the jerboa in my house than a baby. having been the “mom” of everything from hamsters to turtles to rats, i think the jerboa is waaaaayyyyyyy cuter.

  6. So all I have to do to get the special Feministe-insider dark grey comment is call myself Jill?

–Auguste, also not the Jill at #4

  7. OK, I fully realize that my 25-year-old hormones are digging in on this one, but OMG THAT BABY!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s enough to make you want to feed a parasitic life form with your blood and then push it out your vajayjay.

  8. Neither is cute. The jerboa is beating off furiously the whole time, and the adult in the baby clip is clearly stoned out of his mind. You’re just trying to corrupt as part of your atheist socialist liberal feminist agenda.

    But the baby is cuter.

  9. the jerboa!! that creature would be in imminent danger of being crushed by love & affection if it were in my possesion.
“i will name him george and i will hug him and pet him and squeeze him”

  10. Jerboa. Mostly because it looks like an alien (SO glad I’m not the only one that thinks that! 🙂 and …. s/he fell of the scale! Cause s/he was grooming SO INTENSELY! And, and….the feet! The tail! Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhh! *splort!*

“Clean up on aisle five. Another one esploded from teh cute.”

  11. I didnt even have to click the baby one–I’ve watched it approximately 6.43 million times. He wins the internetz.

    And that’s that!

    :-p

  12. Looks like somebody gave the poor jerboa a bath…

Nonetheless, she’s the cutest thing alive. If anyone says otherwise, they’re fooling themselves. ;P

  13. It’s a tie! More importantly, you’ve discovered a new rule of cute: critters that fall (without harm) while too actively engaged in something else, are cute.

  14. That clip demonstrates probably the greatest and eventually most annoying issue with childhood development. It takes years for a joke to get old.

  15. Both so cute… but I’ll have to go with the n00b (i.e. baby). Though with all the falling over he does I hope he won’t have headache issues or something of that sort later.

  16. Jerboa! It’s one of those things that becomes adorable despite being kind of terrifying and ridiculous looking. In large numbers they might be disturbing though.

  17. @ Tony: Good point. It is bizarre for me to claim that, should I find a random baby in my house, especially one who seemed to have a magnetic attraction to the silliness of paper, I’d be fine with it.

But that said, what I hoped to suggest is that we put Baby vs. Jerboa to some sort of test, and the Random Appearance in Your House Test is what I came up with.

  18. For me, the jerboa wins. I have a bias, though. I don’t seem to have the “baby = OMG cute” response that so many other people have. In fact, I don’t generally think of kids as being cute until they hit at least two years old.

  19. OMG, laughing babies are the cutest. I have both my babies on video laughing like this, but for some odd reason BOTH my boys get the hiccups from laughing, so each video ends with them hiccuping and throwing up all over themselves. Awesome.

  20. That kid is going to LOVE Xmas crackers when he gets older. I have to vote for the baby, my brain just doesn’t accept that the jerboa isn’t CGI

  21. @38:
I don’t usually have the baby=cute reaction either, but this one did make me laugh. I think it was something about the way the adult (dad?) and baby interacted, and the adult was clearly having so much fun himself.
