  1. and is believed to have fully deserved the shame she will now carry with her for the rest of her life

I think that puts a “slight” damper on the story?

  2. I know it’s a joke, but why would you call a misogynist a mens rights activist? Hating women and supporting men are two very different activities.

  3. Francis, “Men’s Rights” is a loosely-organized movement of anti-feminist activists; that’s why I capitalized the term. I didn’t mean that anyone who cares about the rights of men is a misogynist. But those men who are involved with organized Men’s Rights organizations? From what I’ve come across, largely misogynists.

  4. “Hating women and supporting men are two very different activities.”

True. However, in my experience, most of the men who claim to support men don’t seem to understand that they are two different activities.

  5. @ Faith – I agree that MRAs tend to hate women, but most of the male feminists (and most of the female and intersex and genderqueer feminists) I’ve ever come accross DO support men by their words and actions.

Feminism helpdboth genders (and people who don’t fit a gender), it just helps women more (most of the time). Rigid gender roles harm both genders (and people who don’t fit a gender), they just harm women more (most of the time).

    SA –

I was actually referring to MRAs and the like, not male feminists. Male feminists support both genders and claim to support both genders. Most men who claim to support men (only) – as in MRAs and conservatives – are, in my experience, nothing other than anti-feminist misogynists (how redundant is that phrase!).

  7. “Slut shaming”: Sneering at women for having too many sexual partners.

“Virgin shaming”: Sneering at men for having too few sexual partners.

“Hypocrisy”: Criticizing others for the same behavior that you indulge in yourself.

  8. Oh, come now, no one is sneering at virgins. We’re sneering at people who hate women yet still somehow expect these things they hate to sleep with them. That’s funny!

  9. I have a gay son and I don’t know any gay men who are misogynists… not being sexually attracted to someone does NOT mean you hate them.

  10. If you look at the end goals of feminism, and then you look at the state of affairs in the world, then it seems pretty clear that most misogynists get laid. Patriarchy FTW!

  11. Sherrie, I think transgenmom was just stating that some gay men can be misogynists, but just talking about how misogynists fail to get women to sleep with them leaves the gay ones out.
