Friday Random Ten And Wet Kitties

I was so busy with the garden that I forgot about the FRT and Friday Cat Blogging! Bad Lauren!

Pablo got a bath this morning. Doug looks on afterward either feeling sympathetic for Pablo or mocking him. I vote for the latter.

Pablo always seems to feel better after his baths. The initial distress causes him to groom and groom until he is dry, but in the meantime I spend extra time brushing and petting him to help comb out any snarls and organize his fur. He relishes in the attention and is at his most affectionate during the few days after his baths. Such a sweet kitty.

I’m still pissed at Doug for the turd incident, so we’re not talking about him.

And as for the FRT, you know what to do. If you don’t I revoke your FRT card.

1) The Capricorns – The New Sound
2) Ladytron – Destroy Everything You Touch
3) Nick Drake – All My Trials
4) R.L. Burnside – Miss Maybelle
5) Jane’s Addiction – Jane Said
6) Le Tigre – We Like The Cars That Go Boom
7) The Lucksmiths – Light in a Jar
8) Lucinda Williams – I Envy the Wind
9) The Beatles – She Loves You
10) Shonen Knife – Konnichiwa

Have a good weekend, all.

  4. “Gooey Newbie” Edition

    1. The Thrills – Not For All the Love in the World
“People / aren’t puzzles to be figured out.” Amen, my heartfelt brethren. 8/10.

    2. Tupac Shakur – Changes
On the one hand, Tupac should always equal respect. On the other hand, this is way too hopeful to be hardcore. 5/10.

    3. Coldplay – Don’t Panic
What a beautiful, relaxing song. Too bad Coldplay stopped being cool months ago. 6/10.

    4. Beck – Mixed Bizness
Eh. I don’t really like Beck that much. 5/10.

    5. Ayumi Hamasaki – July 1st
Incredibly embarassing, let’s just put it at that. But so fast and so kawaii! 2/10.

    6. The Thrills – One Horse Town
We’re back to The Thrills! This song can’t decide whether it wants to be slow and moving or fast and rockin’, but I guess it kind of works anyway. 6/10.

    7. The Supremes – The Happening
Now we’re talking! Classic Motown that isn’t overplayed; a song with depressing lyrics and upbeat music is always the way to go. 8/10.

    8. Dave Matthews Band – Lie In Our Graves
When this song is played live there is often a real resurrection-vibe to it, as DMB peter out to nothing before exploding into the finale. The studio version is alright. 5/10.

    9. Creeper Lagoon – Under the Tracks
This was my secret mix CD song three years ago, because everyone liked it and so few people had ever heard it, or the band. Is that still true? 7/10.

    10. RYTHEM – Harmonia
This relaxing song is also Japanese, and may be even more embarassing than the Ayumi, but it’s a real joy to listen to, like sailing a ship through the clouds. 6/10.

I believe that gives me a mediocre 5.8, though I was really thinking of giving “Harmonia” a 7.

Bonus Blast: The Capitol Steps – Put Ten Grand in the Hand
Ah, don’t you remember when all we had to worry about was whether our next president would be unethical, wooden Al Gore or moron alcoholic George Bush? The crowd absolutely adores this lampoon of Gore, which makes it even more fun to listen to.

  11. The latest Friday Random Ten™, actually done on Saturday, because I was too tired last night. I suppose this one should be called the “Hole in the Middle” version, for reasons that will be clear at the end.

    Artist — “Song”

Charles Mingus — “Portrait — Previously Unreleasted, Take 1”
Dave Matthews Band — “Tripping Billies”
    Wayne Toups — “Sugar Bee”
    Dizzy Gillespie — “Barbados Carnival”
    Bruce Springsteen — “Seven Angels”
Rage Against the Machine — “Killing in the Name”
    Modern Jazz Quartet — “Django”
    Trilok Gurtu — “Passing By”
A Perfect Circle — “The Hollow”
    Pantera — “Hollow”

    Bonus old school shit:

Louis Armstrong — “Dream a Little Dream of Me”
I love an eclectic mix like this. Launchcast has given me two in a row like this, which I think is a new record.

  12. Hmm…spell-checking is good. The first song should read “Portrait — Previously Unreleased, Take 1″
