Some Italy pictures to top off the day

…because I do love pictures. And it’s so pretty here, I can’t resist sharing!

Sitting at the beach. Making a stupid face, because I am unable to smile in pictures I take of myself

Again, the beach. I love it.

  1. If you’ll pardom a possibly sexist comment – from the part of your body in the photo I’m not seeing any reason for you to have any body image issues at all.

  2. (slaps Francis)

I’m going to avoid the “top-off” joke that occurred to me when I saw your headline, and just say — I’m thrilled to see and hear that you’re having a good time. You do so damn much, not least of which is keep us all educated/entertained/etc., and you earned it.

    Have a blast!

  3. Francis, being free from body image issues isn’t your reward for achieving the beauty standard. In fact, there’s some evidence that thin women suffer more from ongoing body image problems, because of the fear that if we gain weight, we will lose everything.

  4. And the big-ass sunglasses…tres fashionable, Jill!

It finally got nice here…I’ll send you some pictures of Puget Sound.

  5. Ah, Linnaeus, please do! I miss Seattle. Sardinia is beautiful, but I still think that Seattle has to be the most visually appealing place to live.

And Francis, while I appreciate the compliment, my post about body image was more about the desire to just exist without having to be defined as fitting a standard or not. I don’t want to have to wake up in the morning and think, “Today I am x.” Whether “x” is pretty or ugly doesn’t matter. It’s having to choose that’s problematic.

  6. What’s wrong with your expression in the self-portrait? It may be a little self-concious, but is in no way stupid. Not to make too much out of one little comment, but part of ending the culture of body image uber alles is not putting ourselves down. Have fun, send more picture.
