Marc Steiner Show — Listen In

You can play yesterday’s Marc Steiner show, featuring Professor Danielle Citron, Latoya Peterson, yours truly, and a call-in from Renee, here. It’s a great discussion. And yes, I have asked Latoya about where she did her media training and I plan on doing it too, because that woman needs her own radio show. Damn.

Professor Citron’s paper about gender harassment online, and her proposed legal solutions to it, can be downloaded here. It’s a fascinating read, and I’d highly recommend checking it out.

Also, Marc Steiner? Awesome. He is a wonderful and gracious host — not to mention a great progressive and feminist ally. Many many thanks to him and his team for inviting us on, and for covering such an important topic.

I haven’t actually listened to the show re-played because I hate the sound of my own voice (and because I have a vague memory of myself babbling on a few times, and saying something about “our culture” and then referencing only the U.S. and Western Europe, specifically England, which as I was saying it I knew was stupid but couldn’t really backtrack), but you should check it out anyway, if only for Latoya and Danielle. Or for the part where someone calls in and says we feminists aren’t standing up for men quite enough.

  1. I have to say that last question where the caller was all about the mehnz was upsetting. Why is it whenever women are speaking about issues affecting our lives some dolt feels the need to interject with what about the mehnz?

  2. I’m looking forward to listening to this over the weekend!

And yes, Marc Steiner does good stuff. Growing up in Baltimore, I always learned a lot from listening to his shows — he covered a lot of important local and national issues that other people weren’t talking about. I particularly remember one talking about the failures of the foster care system in Maryland, which was something I had never thought about as a teenager.

  3. I listened to mark everyday and was very interested in yesterday’s topic. I think you ladies did a wonderful job. I decided to visit the site after hearing you all yesterday. I work in corporate America and wasn’t surprised about about the way women are treated. I can’t remember who responded to the guy who said why don’t you all stand up for men but she really handled his question well. I also like how she noted she probably didn’t answer the question to his satisfaction but that’s the answer he was going to get. I’ll be sure to check this site out in the future!

  4. You all did a fantastic job! I listened to the whole show. I honestly thought Steiner talked too much — should have given MUCH more air time to the guests, and less to himself, considering how much more they had to share — but this was my first time listening to his show, so maybe it’s just a style to get used to. Also I liked how he initially said “non-white” to refer to POC bloggers, and then gradually adopted the terminology being used by the guests and said “women of color” eventually.

It’s wonderful to be able to hear the actual voices of two of the finest bloggers out there. Speaking of the anonymity of the internet … hearing writers’ actual voices turns them into bona fide human beings!

Props and I hope it brings lots more hits and good people to your blog.
