  1. whose purse are you reaching for to pay for this health care?
    Mine? Yours?
Will the providers do so for free?
Do you propose the recipients open their own purses to pay up?

  2. …huh?

The funding is already there. It’s authorized in the federal government’s budget. The problem is that the pot of money authorized to go to health care providers abroad is being barred from funding any provider that so much as mentions abortion as an option, or lobbies for abortion rights in their own country, or performs abortions with non-U.S. funds. No additional money will be coming out of my wallet or yoursl the issue is only who the money will go to.

And will providers and recipients do what for free? Your comment makes no sense. Please try again.

  3. Further, if an utterly tiny amount of money more paid out in my tax dollars were to save INNUMERABLE FUCKING LIVES, you better believe that they can reach for my “purse.” I have really no patience for people who whine “but, but that’s like half a cent a year out of my paycheck!!! Screw you, desperately poor and dying women!” I mean seriously, people who whine about things like this taking their tax dollars either don’t actually give shit about their tax dollars at all and just really hate women, or are so desperately misinformed that they have no right to ask the rest of us to even listen to them on the subject.

  4. Thank you, Jill and Cara, for those comments. Nothing irks me more than someone whining about tax money going to social programs (some of which the whiner actually uses and doesn’t want to admit it, or is too stupid to know they use). “BUT OMG AYN RAND SAYS TO BE SELFISH.” Gross.

  5. Should money be extracted from my purse to pay for abortions in my country or other counties, if I am morally opposed to abortions?

  6. Well JZ, seeing as how if the Global Gag Rule were overturned, you STILL wouldn’t have to pay for abortions either in this country or other ones, your question is irrelevant. Nice attempt to derail the thread, though.

  7. Foreign doctors and patients are free to make their own abortion decisions. I do not attempt to exercise dominion over them. But, I will not pay money from my purse to fund their choices.

  8. YOU AREN’T.

Sorry for the caps. I don’t understand why you cannot grasp the simple concent that the global gag rule is not about funding abortion.

  9. Christ. Better trolls, plz.

    Hahahaha.

    Dear Santa,

This year, we at Feministe would like trolls who waste our time with obnoxious comments that are at least mildly thought out. Ideally, we would like no trolls at all, but we don’t want to be disappointed on Xmas morning.

  10. I’m pretty sure the Global Gag Rule was one of the things Obama’s team is already planning to change in their first round of executive orders–at least, it’s been reported that way. Not that keeping up the pressure hurts.

As for your troll: I’m morally opposed to funding foreign discretionary wars, people dying of AIDS and of hunger, and rape as a weapon of war. I don’t get to have the sole choice as to what my government does either. I still had to pay taxes when the overwhelming majority of the spending was for a war I opposed.

    So quit whining. 😀
